I managed to find time to slip into one of my favorite spots after work today...all was well with a perfect N/W wind. I soon hear shots erupting all a round me and knew it was only a matter of time before I would start to see deer filter up the draw away from the gunfire. 3 minutes later a fork horn buck appeared apparently unconcerned by the shots as he was at ease. He soon was followed by a slightly larger basket rack 6-point and he had his 8-point buddy in tow. I could tell at that distance that he was a large bodied deer and I decided to take him as he entered the opening as so many before him had done. (Chris Champion ..take note on this part... ;D) I settled the cross hairs high on his shoulder and at the report he dropped like a sack of taters! The 195 Barnes had once again cleanly taken a deer. Now the work would begin. I whipped out my phone and called for back up cause it was approx. 120 yds to the bottom of that very steep draw. Soon my son and daughter arrived with the 4 wheeler in tow. We soon had him winched up out of the draw and loaded upon the Arctic Cat for the ride out. As I neared the edge of cover I came upon the old R.R bed and as I descended off of the side I quickly realized that I had misjudged the grade and could do nothing but try and slow my descent but it was to no avail as I rolled the 4 wheeler end over at the bottom. I managed to push clear of the machine but managed to jack up my shoulder and neck a little as they are sore from bench pressing the 4 wheeler... ;D The kids came racing down the side to check on Dad as it had scared them a little..as soon as they realized I would survive the tumble we righted the 4 wheeler and fired it up and went on our merry way..

I am glad you are OK. I have had my own troubles with ATVs. Just glad everything came out decent for you. You might be sore tomorrow. Oh by the way, nice deer.

With a rack like that you'r elucky you didn't take a tine or two. Imagine that...a dead deer doing you in....

Rick
Boy, I’m glad to hear you’re OK. On the lighter side and out of curiosity isn’t there an easier way to show the kids you’re still a tough older man other than bench pressing a 4-wheeler?
Kidding aside, Congrats on a nice buck and hope you don’t suffer any real aftermath from this episode.

Rick, nice deer glad you didn't get hurt. way to not let the quad get the better of you cause they can be tricky some times when you turn them over. I guess this calls for a helmet?
