The Tar team is whackin and stackin! Dad busted 3 opening weekend and "Q" busted 2. Since we have a very good supply of venision on hand we are going to be trying several new recipes this year. Chorizo, some new snacks, and some hickory smoked sugar cured hams.. ;D No recovered Barnes but we did recover some .457 Rems from "Q"s deer. I had some Rems that needed to be used up. His load for this year temporarily anyway..is 60 grn of N120,HSB,.457 Rem and the Fed209a. The Rems performed as expected..poorly.While they are accurate I did not care for the collateral damage. The first doe was broadside at 65 yds. He busted her in the shoulder just like I advised him not to.. . Total destruction of both shoulders. Second doe was a hard quartering to shot where the bullet entered right behind the shouder and came to rest in the opposite rear ham. The entrance hole was incredible had a lot of gut material and lung hanging out of the crater ...I am done hair testing them! Following is a pic of the recovered ham bullet(bottom) and what little of the other bullet...

We, here in Ohio, are just two weeks or so behind you with our season. Soon we get to try. I just wish in this area we were able to take more deer. Maybe some day. Good hunting for all of you I hope continues. Nice write up.

Tar,
I killed a buck in '09 with the Rem 300. The hole in and out was HUGE. There was a chunk of lung the size of a snack baggie dangling from a berry bush along the 60-70 yd blood gusher trail. Yes, these bullets will do a great job killing deer but will also pulverize them. MV was 2500 fps and impact was at 150 yds...perfect archery 10 hole placement...shoulders still a mess.
Nice start on the does by the way

Rick, Sounds like you'd better give Q some BOs. I used that Rem extensively on woodchucks but never used them on deer. They were messy enough on the woodchucks. Glad you guys are thinning them off some.

Glad you guys are thinning them off some. I can probally scrounge up a few BOs.. A couple more weeks and he will be shooting his new Pac. .45..hopefully he can manage to take a couple deer with it. Our AD has a very full wrestling schedule lined up for them...he will have precious little time from Dec.3 on.....
