Rossman I hope you would weigh in on this one im looking at these 2 scopes both in 50mm objective . Looks like Weaver,s eye relief is a bit less than the Leupold. Side focus on the Weaver, don,t know much about that Leupold would not have parallax adjustment. Both would have standard reticle . Weaver is heavier. Cost point about $317.00 after $50.00 rebate from Weaver this is buying from Natchez Shooters Supply. Leupold is going to be around 530.00 if i go with 40mm objective. Could be up to 660.00 for the 50mm objective. Lately ive been partial to the Leupolds but the price point on the Weaver keeps calling my name. I do appreciate any input from fellow members, thanks gunny

I would take the Weaver 3-15X50 with the EBX reticle over the Leupold 4.5-14X40 in a heartbeat. With the prices Natchez is offering them at they are a sweet deal.
Lens quality with the Weaver may be a tad better at the lower magnifications. The Weaver uses a 5X erector to the Leupolds 3X so the lenses have to be better. The 5X erector will also give you a larger Field Of View (FOV) at the lower end. The Weaver will give you 34' at 3X while the Leupold will only give you 19' at 4.5X. Several times I have been zoomed in on a doe and totally missed a buck sneaking up or following her. So I will stay on low power till I'm sure there isn't a bigger deer around.
Your getting high end Asian lenses so both have almost the same coatings.
I must admit that side focus or AO gives you one more thing that can break but that is with any brand of scope.
The reason I plug the EBX reticle is that it is a etched reticle instead of a wire reticle. One less thing to break. VX-3s have a wire reticle.

I have a Nitrex TR2--6.5x20, 50 mm (The Nitrex scopes are the Japanese versions of the Super Slams) and I have a Leupold 4 x 14 44mm. While they are not exactly apples n apples, the Nitrex scope is the best scope I've had. Nice eye relief, very clear, target turrets--a lotta value for the money.
My two cents, Mark
