From what I have read in the posts concerning the custom made barrels bought from Pac-Nor most of them were of the Stainless variety. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with treating a rough chrome moly barrel other than the standard bluing. Teflon? GunKote? Duracoat? Parkerizing? Any advantages or disadvantages of each?

I have been reading quite a bit from various message boards and on gunsmith websites about barrel protection coatings. My plan is to send my NULA(blued) out to be coated, but I want to pick someone that does an exceptional job as I am extremely picky! I also want the most durable finnish that you can get and it needs to be highly abrasion resistant and moisture proof. As you mentioned you have the Duracoats(epoxy paint finnish),teflon coatings(BlackIce is one brand)and the Gunkotes(another epoxy finnish). My choice will be CeraKote. All sites have agreed this is the most durable, moisture proof and even adds operational slickness to moving parts. Here are two trustworthy gunsmiths that do Cerakote: www.ultracoatingsinc.com/services.htmlwww.apwcogan.com/

I had my last Shilen chrome molly barrel Parkerized. In my subjective opinion I think Parkerizing is the most durable coating out there. So far no rust spots, scratches. etc though I've given the rifle many opportinuties.
