I recently purchased a laser bore sighter to get my scopes as close to optical center as possible using Burris signature zee rings and their offset inserts. How far above parallel to bore should I set my scope when lasering at only 7 yds. and wanting a hundred yd. zero? This is the farthest I can go in my basement. Also I'm not quite sure where to put the offset inserts to make the corrections as I might be a little bit dyslexic .

Since you didn't say what the dimension is from centerline of bore to centerline of scope, I can't say for sure. BUT, say the CL of the scope is 1" or 10/10ths of an inch above CL of bore. Then, you'd want the crosshairs (providing they are centered in the total vertical adjustment) .930" above the CL of the laser. Basically, the CL of the scope should be 7% below the distance from CL of bore to CL of scope.
Now, the question is how confident are you that the laser shows the exact centerline of the bore, and can you measure that accurately?
What I'll do is (providing it's a bolt action gun) is set it in a gun rest, remove the bolt and look thru the barrel at the 100 Yd target. Get the target centered in the bore, and without moving the gun adjust the crosshairs so they're on the target too.
If you are going to be shooting at a distance, make sure that the scope is truly verticle when the gun is. If not, if you adjust the scope "up" and it's canted to the right or left, your bullet will not move exactly "up"........
I'll get a plumb bob and hang it at 100 Yds. (no wind). Make sure the rifle is verticle and then adjust the scope so the vertical stadia line is vertical using the string as a guide.
To lower the crosshairs, raise the back of the scope without adjusting the turrets.

esshup, Thanks for the reply. The distance between the bore center and the reticles on my scopes are 1-17/32" and 1-11/16". I'm not real confident that it shows the exact centerline of bore as it is a new laser bore sighter and never used one before. I have the rifle and reticles leveled.

Then at 7 yds the measurements would be 1.424" and 1.569" respectively.
