As you know, I was sending my barrel back to Pac-Nor to be shortened and remove some of the damage from my double load! It was supposed to have arrived at Pac-Nor last Friday and so far, it did not. I contacted UPS last Tuesday and they are running a trace of it. Just a note of precaution when sending "stuff!" Insure it! Fortunately, I did insure it for $400. I was told I have to wait some eight days before they consider it lost and reimburse me. This of course is a PITA. Until I get the verdict, I cannot order a new barrel........Then still have to wait a couple of months to get the new one. Richard

Richard, a few years ago a similar thing happened to me: UPS "lost" a custom fly rod addressed to me. It took them months to finish their investigation and decide an employee had stolen it. Only then did they pay for it to be replaced.
The good news for you is that the reimbursement will allow you to start with a fresh barrel. Of course it's awful you've lost so much time and will lose so much more. Nothing good to say about that. Maybe, though, Pac-Nor will have a barrel on hand. I hope so.

Richard- I hope it shows up! But like hillbill mentioned it might be a blessing in disguise. Either way I'm glad you insured it. I still have 6 weeks left until mine is scheduled to arrive. To say I'm anxious, is an understatement.

Richard, sorry to hear about the loss, Like was said It may be a blessing in disguise. You may be able to get what you wanted in the first place. But that still leaves you with the wait time. It sure seems like you are having a lot of bad luck going to 45. Hopefully it will all work out and you will be happy in the end. If you are interested I would be more the willing to lend you mine. Let me know? Jon

Richard
Boy are you ever experiencing a rough take off with the 45. If losing a component with UPS had to happen I can’t think of a better situation for it to happen. As a few have mentioned that this outcome may give you a new start with a new 26” barrel.
Sounds like you just have to wing it with the 50 for a little while longer. That’s better than just sitting around waiting.

Richard, one time UPS broke my camera tri-pod while in their possesion. Insurance money was paid pretty quick and none has come to get it. When I called them with claim they said pitch it once check get there. Funny,though-I looked and figured a way to fix it on a cheap and decided to keep it and UPS didn't mind at all. Good success with your project-you sure deserve it! olegburn P.S.: Black powder shooters do shoot 1000 yard open sights- Do you think you'll try that with .45? Scope adjustment might be a toughy...

I thought shooting 45 cal was supposed to be way easier than 50 cal. Richard, you're making me have second thoughts about making the switch. Seriously, like others have said, sounds like a lucky break. Hope it doesn't take too long for UPS to pay up.

Yeah, actually, I am hoping they don't find it ;D And, I don't mind playing with the .50 at all. Olgle.........I doubt I will try it at 1,000. While I'm sure I could get it on the embankment with enough playing, what good would it do me? I played with my 6.5 x 284 improved up in Ohio shooting at the 1680 yd. gong and was successful in being able to hit it when the wind cooperated, but no point in it?? Those distances need very heavy .30 cal. bullets from large capacity magnum cases. Since I have only been to the Ohio range twice in about 6 years, no sense in pursuing it. (26 or 28" IF I were to get a new barrel? ?) Richard

Richard, go with the 28". Would you stay with the same twist rate as last time?

Craig........I don't really have any experience with the 1 - 22" twist to know if it is doing what its supposed to . I guess if I bulge the new one and its 28" I can still cut three off of it and still have 25 ;D ;D. I think I will stick with the 22". I would rather shoot the lighter bullets and 22 should do just fine. Hillbill........I will not know anything from UPS until the end of this coming week. (they said eight days). As soon as they give me the word, I will place the order and probably go with 28". Unless other members convince me otherwise? I'm open for suggestions! Richard

:)hillbill use 2015 and start at 68grs and work your way up.i have went to 72grs but my 24" barrel won't burn it all.your 28" barrel should be a perfect combo for this powder.

Richard
Go with the 28” and satisfy your curiosity of what it will do. If your not happy and with the equipment you have you can always trim off some of the barrel length if you feel the sweet spot is with a shorter barrel. A feeling tells me you have already run this idea/option through your head. ;D

Richard, I never thought I'd find a guy with luck to rival mine.........but you're sure workin' hard for the trophy, son! Good thing you didn't send it US Postal Service! They'd have had to ask for a Congressional Hearing before they even allowed you to file a claim! God Bless Private Enterprise! Seriously, hope you get it all settled soon. Like everyone else said, sometimes crazy things turn out to be a blessing. Look at all we went through with my stock and safety issues!! Remember? Well it was frustrating but now I have a 'pretty' gun and everything works well on it and it's a shooter. In the end, I'm tickled. Here's hoping you will be too......... Or heck, as much as I get from UPS, maybe they'll get confused and deliver it to MY house! Reckon??

Richard, good luck with that barrel. I have had a few things disappear with UPS over the years, but mine always showed up, just a week late or so. Perhaps Buckrub has a point about your luck.

Rich, Your barrel reminds me of my bow. Three years ago, I sent my Bowman custom compound to Stewart Bowman (the maker) to have him put new strings plus cables on it and tune it for me. UPS delivered it to his address at 10:59 PM when his shop was long closed and, since it was a high crime area in Phoenix, it was stolen. Took 6 weeks to get my $1,200.00 insurance check from them but it covered the price of a new "improved and better made" bow Stewart had just started building. Sure was a blessing in disguise for me. Hope you get that 28" barrel.

I never had anything lost with UPS but I did lose a recoil pad with USPS. I told them it was a black piece of rubber with the approximate dimensions (I got the package but no recoil pad inside as it was torn and gone) and several days later they found it. Richard, things work in mysterious ways sometimes. I was gone for a week, it is tough getting caught back up with all the new postings.
