Have a couple questions on sizing jacketed bullets. Have not ventured into sizing bullets but would like to do so. I see lee dies for sizing lead cast bullets, will these work or will I need a different animal? will a regular reloading press work or is heavier equip. needed if so what works best? Want to resize 458 to 454 @ 452 to 450. Thx. CW

I have sized .452 and .451 bullets with a reloading press with no problems, several use an arbor press for sizing.
I take it you are planning to shoot a .45 sabotless as the reason for sizing. If so you are probably going to have to use a .448 die to get a bullet close to .450 after sizing. If I was going to try and get a .458 bullet down to .450 I would consider running the bullet through a .454 die followed by a .451 and finish up with a .448. C&H tool and die recommends stepping down no more than .004 at a time.
Make sure you lube the bullets before sizing. I believe most here are using the Lee dies.

8-)This subject generally gets a lot of replies but the reason I think they are limited so far is few have resized from .458.
There are several with experience sizing .451 and .452 bullets but I don't know of anyone currently sizing that far down.
It can certainly be done, but you may have to be your own pioneer.

I have successfully resized .458 bullets down to .450 dia. This has to be performed in stages and the resizing dies need to have a taper to start the bullet into the die. otherwise the copper tends to shave off of the bullet.

I actually played with this slightly tonight. I grabbed a few .458's from my dad last time I was over there just to see how they size. I didn't feel comfortable with the rcbs press, so I went right to the arbor press and I was supprized how well it worked. I sized two 405gr and two hornady 350gr rn. Once I get my 449 from lee I'll worry about that, but I think with smokeless ml velocities rifle bullets are better suited for the job. I'll see what the gun likes best tho...

I want to do the same with .410 bullets for use in the .400 PacNor.

Sorry if anyone misunderstood my post but all I want to do is resize 458 bullets down to 454 and 452 bonded sw down to 450. Looking for the perfect fit in 3 different rifles which unfortunately all came with really tight barrels. Each one has its own set of load fit problems. Being able to do the above sizing would help tremendously. Would the sizing dies for cast bullets be good or do I need to order for jacketed? thanks again CW
