Checked the load database and this doesn't seem covered. After getting a go to hunting load developed with my .50 SMI, I do plan on trying to get 200 grain bullets to work, both .45 and .40, saboted. Assuming I am able to work out accuracy and sabot drilling, will N110 work for this weight as well? At what grain range and what is the max speed I can expect with it? If not N110, what would you recommend at what grain range and max speed to expect? Thanks

:)range if you keep your charges low and aren't looking for big velocity n110 will work with the .40/.50 combo.i think a couple guys here have shot i believe in the 38gr mark.if you want to up the speed you will need to look at slower powders to give it a more gentle push.have fun

Thanks dave. I'm only interested in shooting 200s at 2700+ fps.
I know people were having issues with blown sabots at speed with .50/.40, but that shouldn't be an issue with a 200 gr .50/.45, should it?
What powder would you recommend? 4198? What grain ranges and what's the top speed I could expect?

:)range the 45/50 should be fine but i never dabbled with it in the .50 but i think you will probably need a duplex because its hard to build pressure with a light weight bullet in such a large bore but i'm not sure.when i shot the .50 with .40/.50 in a washer sabot i shot a duplex of 10/70 of n110/n120 and achieved i believe somewhere in the 2800 to 2900fps range.this was along time ago and i would have to dig up the data.i think wilms has shot the 180's to over 3000fps maybe he will chime in.goodluck

I had good results with .451 185 gr XTP's at 3,150 fps. Horrible bullet for deer at that speed and a bad BC for longer range. But the point is it's doable...with a duplex.
Mine was 30/60 - 4759/h322 and a FED209a
I tried the 200 XPB with a similar duplex and blew just about every sabot in a short session. I probably could have tweaked it into shape but decide a 250 TMZ at 2800 and straight H4198 would out do anything I could accomplish with the 200 grainer at 3000+...at any range.
Yes it can be done.....but I do not see any benefit. Recoil? They both will kick a little. ;D

Thanks. Recoil was what I was thinking. If I could get a 200 grain moving at 2800 fps, tragectory and energy are very similar at the ranges I looked at, but was thinking recoil would be less with the 200 gr. Not knowing the amount of powder it would take to get the fps, I wasn't sure though. At those powder levels, I agree, probably a moot point... Thanks, I can cross some more bullets off my to buy list, which was getting quite long and expensive
