Anyone have any thoughts on this company? A friend of mine has the 9mm carbine and pistol and thinks they are great. Looks like a fun gun for a plinker and available in 40 and 45 as well. So far no malfunctions with several hundred round in each gun. Price is almost too good to be true. Contemplating a .45 carbine and pistol....any thoughts or experience out there? www.hi-pointfirearms.com/

I am sorry to admit they are made in Ohio, in fact their main office is here in Dayton. They look like a POS and thru the years they have ironed out a lot of design problems. Being the favorite ghetto blaster in the past (Glocks are now the choice) they are still a favorite "throw away" because of the cost. My experience with the early ones was if you could get thru one mag without a jam or something breaking you did good and it would fail on the second mag. Since then they have tightened things up, better QC and even have a lifetime warranty now. I see a lot of them carried by rent-a-cops. They had a folding carbine that was fairly neat. Would I trust my life with one,,, NO. But as a tackle box gun, camp gun or plinker they may be alright. I would go with a 9mm, cheaper to shoot but avoid hot ammo like some of the mil-surplus sub-machine gun ammo that was for sale in the past.

I think someone accustomed to any kind of quality at all in a firearm would be disappointed with the Hi Point. I can't stand them.

They are indeed a rough looking bulky firearm.

my best friend had one in 380. it shot ball ammo well. but it didnt shoot hollow points well and they would ALWAYS jamb at 2 or third shot. I was not impressed with them.

I have a 45ACP in one and have had zero problems. The gun was bought as a cheap "finish off" side arm and it does very well. Barrel is solid mounted to the frame and is very heavy. The biggest problem I've seen is that the rear sight is plastic. Guess I got a good one..(I hope)
