Gentlemen,I am curious as to what you all would recommend for a outer parka for deer hunting. I have a pair of King of the Mountain wool bibs are ALL they claim to be and then some. The jacket is $800,00. Little to pricey. I live in Wisconsin and the all day sits on stand get very cold. I prefer something that would cover one butt so the kidneys stay warm. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks PS wool is great!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot a argue that wool is great. But before I would spend that I would look at the cold weather bags like the heater body suit first. Or I would layer with wool and cover it with a breathable cover like gortex rain wear. Not exactly what you asked about but other option's. I freeze when they talk about cold... Drop

I talked to one who has used the heater body suit and he swears by it, about half the price of what you mentioned but it is more of a full body suit.

I would look at ravenwear.ca There is a lot of good info there and the quality of their clothing is very good. I have gone away from a heavy parka and now use lots of layers instead. It seems to work very well when done properly. You do need a windproof/water repellant but breathable top layer but it doesnt need to be heavy depending on what you have on under it.
Stay warm!

Heater body suit, been there, done that. It was too confining for me,took it to a seamstress, she opened up the sides so my arms could be free. Still wasn't happy with it. Bought the wool bibs,I layer lightly for my long walk in,then layer up. But I will tell you, sitting motionless for the most part for 12 hours, one gets cold. I use a wicking base layer then a woo shirt, then a Whitewater's jacket. My legs are warm, but upper does get cold. UGH!!!!!!!!!!

I have sat on a stand for that long also. As I get older it gets less than pleasant. I do not know what temps you are hunting. Keep us posted on what works as a lot of us here would like to stay warm on a stand.

One thing I can tell you,King of the Mountain wool,Sleeping Indian wool are as good as it gets. I have a sea bag that was issued to me while in the service. Opening day of gun season finds me walking in with my under Armour cold weather shirt and Whitewater Goretex pants. Once to my stand I then add a wool sweater,King of the Mountain bibs, and my Whitewater Goretex jacket. And lastly, a pair of insulated over boots. WOW,those are the cats _ss. My father would have me bundle up when I would hunt with him in the beginning years. Walk a mile to our stands, sweat our butts off, then to freeze as you would succumb to the cold. I have learned a little in my 47 years,,lol The reason I initiated this post was in search of a good parka. Perhaps I answered my own question. King of the Mountain Parka's and Sleeping Indian parka;s are very costly, but stretch that over a lifetime and it would be well worth it. I just thought someone else might have some better suggestions.
