3 month from today...as long as I don't get hit by a beer truck or lightning....I will be in Canada at the Gouin Reservoir. After walleyes as usual.. Getting pumped and will be spending some free time tying worm harness's and getting food lists going and making a few hundred pounds of super cold Ice in my big freezer that runs at -15 below zero Farenheit.
Bring it on!!
Just thought I'd throw that line out there....

Wilms. I envy you, I used to use dry ice and it would last for days. I never had that big of a freezer. Jon

Blackpowder,
No bear hunt...although it is done on a limited basis from the camp we stay at "Hibou"
Jon,
We used to get a block of dry ice. Have a 150 qt cooler. We would put the dry ice in there and surround it with regular ice blocks. After 3 days when our other ice ran out, we would break into the deep-freeze cooler and be set for rest of the week and trip home. Ends up that we don't need that extra security at this place. The small cabins have fridge's and one stand up freezer.
Have gone from tents to cabins and will never go back ;D

10 days and counting.....
Been tying worm harnesses and updating lists. Most of the ice is made...few hundred lbs of blocks. Food shopping this weekend.
Little wrench in the plans though. My girlfriend went in the hospital today for a bout with colitis. Fever all weekend....dehydrated bad. Supposed to be 2-3 days and maybe another colonoscopy. I hate going so far away with something "going on"....but if I need to be home I will just wave goodbye to the guys and be here. She's been through a lot since the exact day I started this thread.
Haven't missed a trip in 16 years..got my fingers crossed

Wilms. Prayers for both you and your girl. These have been very trying times for both of you. She will probably feel worse than you if you miss your trip. I hope everything works out for both of you. Jon

Well, she came home at noon yesterday. She seems fine after 8 days and another colonoscopy which revealed severe ulcers in the entire colon. Chrones disease.
She is much better and has a slew of pills and dietary restrictions.
Had a long talk last night and she basically told me I better go on my trip or it would make her sick again. So I'm going...leaving in 20 hours. I haven't done a thing to get me things together and I work 10 hours today. Then do some shopping and packing 3 trucks full of gear....and try to get a few hours of sleep. Leaving at 3 am
Will be back June 17 late...

Wilms, I believe I fully understand. Your girlfriend needs medication and medical care. Neither of these can you give her. On the other hand you have needs also and staying near her worrying isn't help for you or her. Enjoy your fishing trip and let us hope that she soon fully recovers.

I'm back. Trip was good. My mind wasn't quite right though. Many reasons. The trip is getting to be monotonous after so many years. Same old thing year after year. Tough to get there, weather can be brutally hot. Trip home is torture. This year we repaired a broken trailer spring, took a wrong turn, and one of our trucks got a random tear down at customs. Left at 6:00 Friday morning to come home and got back at 12:30 at night....18 1/2 hours. Last year the guy driving my truck for the 2nd leg home crushed a deer on route 81 and I didn't get my truck back for 3 1/2 weeks. This year I drove the entire way up and back.
During the middle of this trip I got an upset stomach...we just eat too much fried crap IMO. So, instead of having a few beers on the boat, I grabbed a jug of water for the day. Turned out to be lake water...don't ask...just a dumb mistake. Drank 1/2 gallon of it before I figured it out. Was transported in a white jug and poured into a brown bottle so never realized it was stained brown water.
I worried about the girl at home the whole time...
As for fishing, our boat caught 184 walleyes. Most were in the 14" range. I caught a 23" one and another boat caught a 28" one. Pike were not as bad this year...caught maybe 12 in our boat (a good thing IMO)
Weather was hot, still and uncomfortable....sunscreen everyday but one. Bugs were average...horseflies being the worst. Saw a bear 1st day swimming across a small channel. Outfitter told us that every island up there has a moose calf on it and the black bears swim to islands to check for them...and eat them. Claims 5% of the new moose are eaten by bears every year. One boat saw a timber wolf.
Am strongly considering not going next year...too far. The rest of the group is still all excited so I don't know for sure what the heck is wrong with me.

Aw Wilm's nothing is wrong with you at all. As we get older we get smarter. I used to be up for any misadventure but I have figured out that you don't have to suffer and beat yourself to death to have a good time. You can spend the same amount of time and money and go somewhere the weather is nice, the food is good, and the fishing is fine that doesn't take a re- make of the Lewis and Clark expedition to get there.
