Just curious, what color laminated stock do you prefer with a stainless rifle and action ? My favorites are... Silver, gray, black/gray, electric blue. While the brown laminated stocks Savage uses for the MLII isn't all that bad, I prefer my favorites above. I think the gray/black laminated stock looks best in a all stainless hunting rifle while electric blue looks good for show. Do you guys think Savage should offer other laminated color options ? Well, let's hear about the ones you prefer. BTW, you're allowed to post pics of your favorites.

This picture isn't with a stainless steel barrel but I think that the silvery grey hue in this Boyd's Royal Jacaranda stock would pick up the stainless color nicely.

I kinda like the grey laminates like the ones Ruger puts on their stainless rifles.

OK,I give up! How do they get the different colors? Rex, If I remember correctly, most all colored laminations are of dyed Birch wood. They layer the different colored laminations in the pattern they want, glue them together under high pressure, then rough them out for whatever rifle they're being made for.

If going one a hunting gun, I like the savage OEM, or the black/grey. If I had a super duper, awsome targer rifle I might find the urge to go a little crazy.

The actual product is from Rutland Plywood and is called Stratabond. If you go to their website you can get more details and see the factory colors. www.rutply.comThey do custom work but you have to buy the whole panel. What stockmakers will do is choose a layup design, you can look at their DymondWood line for some really neat designs, and make their order. That is why some stockmakers have layups that others do not. Before you guys get any ideas the DymondWood material is extremely dense and heavy and that is why you see it only in pistol grips. If you want a blank of Stratabond for a woodworking project Wenig's sells 4"X22"X2.25" blanks for around $20. Also some of the OEM stock material is poplar instead of birch which is cheaper and just a tad lighter. Another fact is that hybrid poplar is used in replanting and grows very fast and very straight which makes it ideal for veneer.

Harley, he could tell you but he'd have to shoot you. None of us would like that so just trust him. Sometimes I wish he had been a doctor. He'd have whipped cancer by now.

edge, yes its a tacdriver and yes I like it very much. would I do it again? right now I would say yes, in October I would have advised, buy a factory stock. know how women forget labor pains? guess thats how it is with this stock. if one has lots of time and likes to eat wood dust and likes to tinker and likes the smell of finish and likes to spend the mrs paycheck then this is your baby. fair warning -----take a chill pill before beginning said project......Bill

Y'all are gonna laugh at me but I'd buy a Richard's stock in Apache Gold with a Wildcat style if I could entice Richard into refinishing it for me all high gloss and pretty, and totally putting my gun in it, etc......... I know, it'd be LOUD looking, but I just like that one. But I just do NOT have the patience to mess with it myself, nor the time right now. I can see how doing it yourself is rewarding, though. But right now, I'd rather just own one, than feel good about building one.
