Now that I've had a few long deep breaths since hunting season, the fingars are twitching again. What a cold winter with lots of snow. Not a ton of desire to be out shooting in it this year.
BUT...spring is coming. I took the gun I bought from Ozark out last night and admired it over and over. I never shot it much last year...maybe 20 times. If I remember, I shot a bunch of 2 and 3 inch groups. Nothing bad and nothing spectacular. It is a beautiful gun that has not had a proper workout yet. Dang that accutrigger too. One day I will replace it.
In the next few weeks, I will be trying to find a very mild load using 250 XTPs and 185 XTP's under 2000 fps. Looking for decent accuracy and very little recoil. My girlfriend wants to shoot woodchucks with it!!
I've got all kinds of sabots as well as N110, 5744 and 4759. Will probably try 30 gr of each and work as high as 35 or so looking for accuracy out to 100-150 yds max.
Anyone have good load info that shows which of these powders are likely to give consistent speeds at low velocities? I would like to get a bunch of speed loaders ready this weekend for when the weather breaks.

34 grains of N-110 with a 180 grain red hot shot 1/2 inch at 75 yards for me. Also 22 grains of 4756 with a 250 grain HXTP shot under 1 inch at 75 yards. ( this is RBs women and children's load) He also used it with 200 grain bullets for less recoil.

I never used N110 or 5744 that low, but I did with 4759. In my gun it shot well, 1.5" - 1" groups with 250 grains XTPs and MMP short blacks. Much less recoil than normal loads. My wife shot these and the recoil didn't bother her.

Wilms, sounds like you have a smart girlfriend . I have only gone down to 41 gr of 4759 but that was very accurate. No doubt others have gone lower with good results. Good luck with it!

Wilms, the low loads of these powders might have a low enough pressure to be quite temp sensitive. If low recoil and resultant lower velocities with lighter wt bullets are desired, then faster powders are in order such as 4756, etc. RB should be of help here. Also, consider that when you are down to these speeds that the 40/50 saboted 200SST may shoot quite easily and well.

Good point SW but it actually gets above freezing here during woodchuck season.

I have played with from 22 gr to 32 gr of both 4759 and 5744, they both shot great reduced, these are basically the starting loads to max loads for 45/70s in the weaker action classification of rifles. 32 gr of either, drives my 330 gr. .451 LBT mold hard cast @ 1500fps, it also send xtps 250 at around 1650. I find these loads would be more than adequate for 150 yrd. Killen.
