Does anyone know how to get the front free floating handguard off this rifle without buying the $50 wrench? Does it come off counter clockwise or another way? Its pretty tight and I want to make sure I don't try and take it off wrong. I just picked one up and I was also wondering about the accuracy I should get from it. Thanks.

It is nice if you have a vise block for the receiver so it wont move. but Al is correct on his instructions.

Thanks guys that worked. Any ideas on the accuracy I should expect? Or possibly a proven load to try?

I would expect it to shoot sub moa with good match ammo. I would buy some Federal 168 gr BTHP match and use that as my test standard, and then when you are working up handloads you will know what you are trying to match. An old standby load for match 308 in the past was the Sierra 168 gr BTHP match bullet that Federal uses in their factory match ammo with a charge of IMR 3031.

Federal Gold Medal Match is pretty much a standard, it has just gotten so expensive like all the other ammo. When I was last at the "Goose" (Gander Mountain) it was almost $40 for a box of 20.

Yeah I've noticed that Gander Mountain's prices are alittle inflated also. Luckily I reload and I just ordered three boxes of the 168gr Sierras this afternoon from good ole' Midway . Hopefully I'll be able to hit the range soon and let her stretch her legs!!! (I'll be chomping at the bit till then) Thanks again

It's not a 308 but my DPMS LR-260 shoots one ragged hole at a 100 most of the time with hand loads. I have heard the same for the 308 as well. Needed a trigger first thing. Lots of fun but a heavy rig.

Lots of fun but a heavy rig. Yeah I haven't weighed this thing but Im betting its pushing 15-17lbs. "Should" be accurate, i just don't know if I want to tote it around for a mile or two. But God help anything brown that crosses my path once I settle down and get my breathe back ;D.
