Hi Gents, looking at a possible purchase of a AR style varmint rifle and found Rock River Arms. Its seems like a quality rifle and company. Anyone have any experience with them? Thanks Mark

I have a RRA 24" varmint, it shoots most factory ammo under an inch and most of my 62-70 gr hand loads need more than 100yards to make paper punching any fun. I went with this gun because it had the nicest factory trigger of any of the brands I had a chance to shoot. Also like the 1-8 twist for heavier bullets. This gun has a 4.5-30x50 Bushnell 6500 and is quite heavy, but I didn't buy it as an all day carry gun. I would go with an 18-20" or lighter profile barrel if your planing on covering allot of ground.

one of the guys I shoot trap with had RRA put together a rifle a few years ago which is pretty close to the Predator Pursuit today. This thing is a laser with a 55gr Nosler BT over 26gr of Benchmark? (book load off of Hodgons site anyways) I haven't seen another AR even run close with him, let alone a .223 bolt gun.

I had an AR assembled a few years ago using a RRA barrel, and most of their components. It was a flat top, use and Eagle Arms lower, and a DPMS low pro upper. If I feed the rounds one at a time, it will shoot just about any bullet weight into a 1/2" group, and loads that it likes it will shoot down to about 0.3". It has a RR 22" douglas barrel with a 1 in 8 twist and it will shoot everything from 40 gr noslers to 75gr Berger VLD and it shoots them all well. When you strip them out of the mag, the groups open up a bit. Depending on how good of a grip the brass has on the bullet, I can normally get groups down under 3/4 MOA pretty easy. It's harder to do with 40gr pills because there just isn't that much of a shank on the bullet for the brass to get a hold of. 50gr and up seem to shoot better for me when I'm feeding out of a mag.
When I started shooting service rifle, I bought the RRA service rifle upper. It shoots as well as my first. I shot one match at Camp Atterberry and dropped 9 out of 20 rounds in the bottom left corner of the x (roughly 6" across) at 500 yards with open sights in prone. The Wilde (sp?) chamber dimensions that they use seems to be VERY good and VERY tollerant of various bullet lengths. IMHO you can't get a better set up for an AR. I have a friend who shoots service rifle with some of the guys from Krieger, and he has a few of their barrels. I wouldn't hesitate to put my RRA uppers up against any of his.
Just my 2 bits, Mark
