Well I have been talking about it for awhile but I finally completed my new rifle upgrade. Took my Rem 700 SS BDL SYN 30-06 and did a complete upgrade. Added the new Remington Factory Laminate stock with R3 recoil pad and had it professionally pillared and glass bedded by Jim Swimm at S and S Machine. Adjusted factory trigger to 2.5lbs Added a steel Warne one piece tactical base. Warne steel rings. New Leupold VX III 3.5-10x40 with Boone and Crockett reticle. Here are some pictures:

I really am a terrible photographer, I could not take a good gun photo if I had a class on it. Anyway took it out yesterday just for a trial run at a local spot. Had to make due with the old rickety picnic table and a couple of sand bags. I fired a few rounds through it to seat every thing and then centered it up at the 100 yd target. Was able to manage two groups just under an inch with some old USGI match ammo. Had some other odd ball stuff that I just fired for effect. It was ok but I then bore down with some of the match and nailed 3 shots almost touching. Fired off about 30 rds all together. I am really undecided if I am going to keep it or not. As you all know since my 2 neck surgeries shooting anything with much recoil has really been hard for me. I seem to be able to shoot ok but later on I really suffer for it. This was one reason I did this upgrade like I did, as I always liked this rifle and thought with the heavier stock, base, and new recoil pad I could manage the recoil of the 30-06 better. Well by evening time I had a massive headache coming on. I got ahead of it with some advil, but I dunno if it is worth it. I really love this rifle, but I really get tired of the head and neck pain. Anyway I think she is a shooter.

It came out nice Dwight. Sounds like a real shooter. If you hunt with it, you won't be banging off 30 shots, so maybe it won't be so physically challenging, as this session was.

No need to feel sorry for me, I did it to myself, I figure I have pulled the trigger on close to 1/2 million rds in my life, and it has been alot of fun. A 243 might just be in my future.

We have both learned to absorb the recoil without flinching or shouldering but ffifty or more rounds five days per week for a few years takes it toll. I can't say it is our fault because our duty was to forget the recoil and shoot a score. As surely as a war wound it happened in the line of duty and I am proud of you.

Nah Ben all I ever got in there shootin wise was the bug, all the rest I really did do to myself shootin Class 3, shotgun games, etc etc. Thanks for the kind words but I would be dishonest to say I deserve them. You got to remember I did not retire from the service like you did.
