We have all seen rifles and shotguns stored horizontal, vertical or just leaning against a wall. I have heard that weight of the weapon itself can cause the barrel to warp to some degree. Enough to cause a different point of impact when used after a prolonged improper storage. Anyone have any experience with this? Better question would be: What is the correct storage position? Thanks

Good question...I don't know. I store mine vertically. The company I work for makes hardwood doors and it's a big no-no to lean up against a wall for storage...it WILL bow and twist over time. Not sure this applies to steel and to something that doesn't weigh very much
One thing is for sure....if you store a scoped gun vertically, use scope caps. A gun without them will have dust on the lens big time

Mine are stored vertical. Never thought about it but I know drag racers who have spare engine parts around will not store a crankshaft horizontal unless its in an old engine block with all the main bearings in place. Because it will bow in the middle. The weight a lot more but I suppose it's the same idea. After cleaning I store them barrel down on a rag in the safe for a week so the extra oil runs out instead of in the action. 161
