Ok I've narrowed my caliber down to 7mm-08 (I already own a 7Mag and have the dies, bullets and brass for the 08). Now I am trying to narrow down the rifle choice and I was wondering what people think of the Model 14 Savage. I have also considered the Browning, Remington or even a T/C Encore. But honestly I own three Savages and they've never let me down yet. Didnt know if anyone out there has a Model 14 or any other ideas for that matter?

Pretty guns they are. I have been thinking about one for some time.
Savage does not list the 7-08 as a current option. 308 and 243 in the short action Model 14.
There is a Remington Model 7 CDL 7-08 in the fold. It pretty and accurate, although the thin barrel does heat up and a 5 shot group is less than stellar, the first 2 are right on. This past year it has proven to be too light for me. I seem to suddenly have problems holding the thing still. Just too light. Probably some kind of age thing. The gun is assumed by my wife to be hers.
I am on the look out for a 14 in the 308. I watch the gunbroker and the auction arms sites

I have one in 22-250. American Classic. Taking it to the range today if I can get through the snow. Last year I sighted it in at 100 yds. 1st group of 5 low right then a few clicks left brought her in line. I messed up the scope rings, but am working toward getting it back in action. Savage site says you can get it in 7MM-08. www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/14AMERICANCLASSIC[a href=" "] [/a]

I have one in .243 It shoots fine, although I already had a 308 in CZ before I bought it, so the Savage is not my go to gun yet. It is a beautiful gun, clean lines, and the trigger is pretty good.

Cha-ching!!! Still waiting on Uncle Sam to give me back some of my tax money so I can get the rifle but, I just picked up the scope. I think this Leupold VXIII 3.5-10x w/ the B&C reticle will work just fine. ;D As the Jeep boys say "Life is Good"

Played with a 250 savage in a model 14 and it was certainly good stuff. I recommend it. And even with the fan that I am of the encore, It is more finicky than you likely want. Everyone needs to understand that Encores are not intended for factory ammo, regardless of what T/C says. and none will shoot every bullet accurately, they will have what they like in weight class but it will be nothing else. I have and have had 8 barrels (currently 5) in various calibers, all are the same way. The 480 pistol is most versatile.

I currently have an Encore but I just can not find my self feeling content after I change the barrels out. I always find myself going to the range just to recheck everything before I hunt with it. Im really liking everything Im hearing about the Model 14. By the way I own a Ruger Redhawk in 480 and LOVE it. I just wish we had some blackbear here on the shore, between that pistol and my MLII these poor deer don't stand a chance.
