Going into the 8th decade of my life I will share with you my thoughts of the future, past, death and the hereafter. First, I accept that death is certan and that I am 80 plus years closer to my own. Religion: Mankind has never been able to accept that he lives, dies and then rots and that is all. So, many religions and beliefs have surfaced to provide hope that we don't do that. I have tried to develop a personal code of religion that I am willing to die with. I don't agrue the point and am not one to tell others what they should believe or disbelieve.
I am as happy with my life at my age as I have ever been and do not fret because time is short. To me, it is living in the now and accepting whatever may be down the road. I smile, joke, have fun and enjoy each day. I am very thankful that I am not usually in much pain but greatful that should pain come the medical people can control it.
I am aware that the desease I have is terminal but thankful that with the help of doctors progress is slow and there is still time to enjoy life.
In the hospital I am obviously a pleasant patient. I give my books away and question the nurses and others about their life. Sometimes my room is a gathering place for just visiting with the staff. I complement them and let them know that their job is a tough one and let them know I am lucky to have them there for me.
I do have full coverage health insurance and I believe that those of us who do may well get better care simply because others feel that perhaps we have paid our dues. For me and my wife, this is a great benefit. Believe it or not, we made it before Obama was elected.
Home care: Yesterday a nurse came to fill out a bunch of papers and today a friend of ours brought us a hot meal from the senior center. While able we supported that center and organized many pool (Billiard) tournaments. So now, they are supporting us. My wife and I both eat a good hot meal for five bucks.
Senior discounts: Yes, nearly everywhere we get a senior discount but we feel that the young family with children needs this hand out more than we do. I recall it was tough at times but now it is all gravy.
WHY? All this. Because where I am you will soon be and I just hope that you adjust and accept it all without turning bitter and consider yourself unfortunate. It is great here and although I can't stalk game I can put and edge on a knife that slides through a ripe tomato as slick as I am sliding down the path to tomorrow and beyond. Is this advice? Yes, enjoy life fully because I like you guys and gals. Ozark
