....hello .45! Just got off the phone with Pacnor with my order for the dave d special, except went with 26" and super match lapping or whatever it's called. Only downside is it's 8 weeks out. I'm hoping this will eventually become a sabotless shooter, but just don't want to spend the $, for the dies until later this summer. Hopefully i will have more time then as well. So right now I'm looking to shoot 200 grain saboted bullets. I've ordered some harvestor sabots and have the bullets on hand. Powder wise, I'm thinking I'll have to try a couple new ones, whether straight or duplex. I have 4198, 4759, and will be getting some 5744 for Richards 50 duplex. Is there one of the "slower" powders that I should try out right away? Or just go straight 4198 to start with?

Hoping I clarified my initial post. I was just a little excited, and my fingers couldn't keep up with my ideas!

:)younghunter86 congrats on your new barrel.for 200gr saboted bullets 56 to 63grs of 4198 will work great and if you want to du-plex try your 4759 with some 2015 or h322.i suggest single 4198 first and work up a great load with it first.once you have a load then you can have some more fun tinkering.it's funny my load of 62,63grs of 4198 is so good i never looked much further.have fun

dave d. -
I'll probably just stick with 4198 until I see a reason to change. It's going to be a loooooooong 8 weeks. Just found out the newer version of the 200gr SST probably won't be available for another 2 months. Maybe it's meant to be.

To me the first shoot is almost always the best of the group, I have saved a number of one shoot targets, where the first shoot took out the the half inch center. in the bulleyes [ I do not save targets where I missed the target and frame] Your Savage is basically a one shoot weapon, so make the first one count, If you can't kill a Deer sized animal with one shoot, take up bowling

Some one at the range I belong to got the old pins from a bowling lane. They are regularily hung on the 100 yard backstop. They take quite a pounding before they are splintered away.
Does that count as bowling?

Only if the slug is rolled at them. Hot loads that the slug tumbles might be counted.

youp50,
As far as I'm concerned, if you are having fun, bowling pin are fine. Some folks take life too serious. I once made a film, of catching big Barracuda on a fly, in the film, I rubbed the fly with Mullet juice, A friend watching it said, thats cheating, watch out for your reputation, What reputation, said I, I.m just a guy, trying to get a fish pull my string, lighten up and have fun.

Bigmoose, I love fly fishing too. I'm sure, you noticed the Mako reel in my avatar.
