Hey all I was just wondering if anyone could tell me the drop I will have in my particular load for my 50 cal thunder-hawk? Right now I am sighted in 2-1/2 high at 50 yards, all 3 centered and touching with 95 grains of pyrodex, hornady 45-240 xtp mag sabots with # 11 percussion cap. What can I expect at 100 or so yards as far as bullet drop? Also what would my max range with this load be before energy is insufficient for a clean kill? THANKS ALL AND GOOD HUNTIN!!

I think you will be right in the bullseye at 100yds, maybe a tad high. I would say aim top of shoulder at 150 and it should drop it right in there. I always start at 50 to get dead on and then fine tune at 100yds.

Wow, do you think there is enough energy at 150 to make a clean kill with 95 gr. pyrodex? I shot both my ml today at 50 yards, got a 1- 1/4 group and a 1 inch group. One is a 45 cal knight original disc shooting hornady 200 gr sst, 2- 777 pellets, fusion 209 primer (1 1/4 group) and the other is a thompson 50 cal thunder-hawk shooting hornady 240xtp mag with 95 gr pyrodex # 11 caps (1 inch group). I know to some 1 1/4 and 1 inch group at 50 yards ain't the best but shooting off the picnic table that ain't bad shooting for me. What do you think about both those loads for deer? Anyhow thanks for the reply and if anyone else wants to chime in please do so. THANKS AND GOOD HUNTIN!!

I think either load will do fine at 150 yds and below as long as you get good shot placement.

The 95gr Pyro load should be near its lower limit at 150 and the 45cal with the 40-200gr SST should be able to reach out a bit more...maybe 175 max. Ive never tried pellets in my Elite 45 but with 110gr of BH209 im good to just under 200 yards in the field....on a bench a bit further.
I prefer to stay at 800fpe or above but the bullet performing properly after shedding a lot of velocity is also very important. The 40-200gr SST is a bit tougher than the 45- 250gr.
