I never thought of them being out of alignment. Never heard of or had that problem before. Is it common for guns or rings to be that way? and what would you have to do to fix it? thanks

I have yet to find a set of bases and rings that come into alignment from just bolting them on. My Savage MLII was horrible. I mount the bases and loctite the screws then install the rings and check the alignment with the rods like in the brownells link. Put in the lapping rod and lap them until the rings show at least 90% contact with the lapping rod. Then put the scope in and torque the rings to 25 inch pounds. If you mount a lot of scopes lap bars and a bore-sight are necessary items. I would never consider using quick disconnect rings without lapping them so they will consistently repeat location.

Where do you get the lapping rods at? And is it pretty easy to use the rods?

I don't mount a lot of scopes, but it seems that after I bought the alignment tools, a ring reamer and lapping set, I had all sorts of requests from friends to mount their scopes.....
