I ordered the Lansky knife sharpening system and have been putting it through the paces. It works great and although it took a bit to get the hang of, I am putting edges on knives that the user better respect. Anyone have ideas on sheaths to prevent the edges from banging against each other in the drawer? I made some from pastboard but they are not satisfactory. I enjoy doing this and I need something to do. YEAH, I know. Find a lot of things to stay off the forum,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I have one I would have GIVEN you had you asked (assuming I could find it). It, like about two dozen other methods, have proven to be fakes, sold by charlatans, worthless pieces of drivel made to suck my money in some crazy attempt to convince me, yet again, that I could INDEED sharpen a knife if only I had this one more gadget.
Wrong.
I can't sharpen a knife.
And that is the way it is. I have learned to deal not in woodworking, electricity, plumbing, knife sharpening, or gunsmithing.
The hard way.

Buckrub, I do believe you top the list of pessimist. Bless your heart. You remind me of the man who had a flat on a country road and said to himself: I bet my spare is flat too. It wasn't but he couldn't find a lug wrench. Looking across a field he seen a farmhouse and started walking and thinking. Half way there he thought: "It is about supper time they will probably ask me to eat and then bring me back in their vehicle and help me change tires." Walking on he begin thinking: "This bunch may hate visitors and tell me that there job isn't to keep vehicles moving on the highway." Thinking these thoughts as he knocked on the door, a friendly man came to the door and said: "Come in." NO, I just stopped here to tell you to how I feel; I don't have to eat your food and you can shove that lug wrench you know where and I can walk back to my vehicle." THANK YOU... I sure hope your self views are not contagious. Ozark

We use a wooden rack that fits horizontally in the draw. It has quite a few horizontal slots and keeps the knives very accessible and protects the blades. Richard

On my kitchen countertop I have a slotted wood block that holds sharp knives. I like this method because you can quickly identify and withdraw the needed knife.

here are a few pics. the tighter you can wrap the paper to the blade it gives it a snug fit so it wont slip off in the drawer. also wrap the paper in tape i used scotch tape but some use duct tape.

Ben, if you knew me you'd know that isn't true. I'm happier than almost anyone you meet every day. But the truth is that I am a klutz with physical things and I do what almost no one else ever does......I freely admit publicly my foibles. I haven't told you a thing about the 10,000 things that I do well, and am very good at. That would be called bragging, and I hate it above almost anything else. But I'm known far and wide for my ability to take any knife and make it duller. And I have a Lansky I would have given you. I have a Legler. I have sticks, and stones, and gadgets by the dozens. That's because I'm an OPTIMIST and I keep buying yet one more gadget to think "Man, I can sharpen a knife, I KNOW I can.....if I just had this cool gadget"..... As for the flat tire, I'd have just stuck the can of Slime in there that I keep in the vehicle and kept driving! You really do misread me. But a post on sharpening knives grabbed me, because of my long standing reputation in that area.

Does Buckrub make everyone smile? I have been at the knife sharpening bussiness using the Linsky system for a couple days now. Every knife we have is now sporting a keen edge and wrapped in newspaper sheaths as recommended. It took a short time to get used to making the recommended stroke and to get the edge angles correct the first time. Now, it is a snap an believe me there is an edge that will slice. I love it and it is quick. Yes, I could get a Chefs special and do as well but not the same self sastification.

Four stones (I don't believe they are diamond) types. I have always sharpened knives with stones by feel. With this system you only hone the edge angle that needs it and by feel you have a slightly different angle on each stroke. Now I will have a local friend make me a slotted board to store the knifes in. I am sure you can improve on it edge. SO GO FOR IT

Mr Ozark ..I have an idea... How about if you had a piece of PVC pipe Cut it to length Put it in the oven to soften it and then flatten it so as the blade would slide in it like a sheath. You gould even leave part of it round or shape it like the handle so as to protect your hands when getting inthe knife drawer? Kind of like a home made fillet knife sheath. You could buy a length of it pretty cheap? What do you think? Drop
