I bought a pair of these gloves last fall, but didn't get a chance to use them much last year. I was too busy cutting firewood to go ice fishing. I've always liked fleece gloves, and I've always liked glomitts for hunting. I have an older pair of insulated fleece glomits that I've been using almost 10 years. They are warm, and have done a good job, but they are a tad bulky. These glomitts are a lot less bulky, but do have a little bulk to them since they have 150gr Thinsulate in them. It finally cooled off here in Indiana for our ML season, so I've been using one pair of these gloves exclusively, and all I can say is WOW! It was 7 when I left the house this morning. I normally drop a pair of hand warmers in my boot covers when it's this cold out, but I forgot the warmers this morning, so I only sat in the stand for about 2 hours before my toes got numb. I spent the hole time holding my ML in my hands on purpose to see how long it took for my hands to get cold. Never happened. I went for a walk, and carried my aluminum shooting stick in my hands, and again they never did get cold. Aside from a pair of snowmobile gloves that come half way up my arms, these are by far the warmest gloves/mittens that I have ever owned, and I've tried a lot of them over the years. The combination of the fleece and the Thinsulate is VERY effective. Needless to say, I am impressed. I just checked, and they are on sale for $10 now at Cabela's. I bought 4 pair last year, so I don't need any more

How do you deal with the noise the velcro "holder open" spots make?

I generally don't bother with it. The spots on these gloves are the smallest I've seen, and I don't think they make very much noise. I leave my fingers covered until I need them exposed, and then I just slip them out. I don't try to force the cover all the way back. Worse case, i would remove the fuzzy side of the velcro. I've had gloves with large square spots before that made a LOT of noise. I cut the fuzzy side off, and let the hook side grab the fleece, and it worked fine with out nearly as much noise.

I have a pair and find they are usually too warm and find myself opening them for a bit. Then making a bunch of noise closing them. I have put them aside for ice fishing.

That's true, they are very warm. I don't wear them unless its below freezing. Normally that's just during ML season, or while coyote hunting or ice fishing. They are certainly not a warm weather glove, but they work great for cold weather.
