I know the cabelas savage is supposed to only run BP but we all know this is really the same gun, infact the one I saw at cabelas even mentioned smokeless as a powder option on the hang tag, anyways this gun has a 2" longer barrel, how much extra speed will this gun make over the standard savage, I am wanted to run a 250 grn bullet at 2600 fps or so, will the extra barrel length be enough to get away with not using a duplex load??

The standard Savage is capable of launching 250 class bullets at the speed you want with little trouble and no need for duplex.
H4198 at 72-75 grains. There is more speed then that available if that's not fast enough.....without those 2 extra inches of barrel.

IMO the fast burning powders will have about the same speed and the extra length won't matter.
The slower burning powder IMO will have more speed because of a more complete burn because of the extra length. Steve

I would rather have a 2" longer barrel if I were going to shoot a 50 cal Savage. Same pressure will get you 50-100'/sec faster. Ideally you would shoot a slower powder: 4198, VV-120 with 250 and 275g bullets. You seem to not want to shoot 300g bullets. A good look at the loading charts should be of some help in picking other powders in the speed range of these 2 powders. Note: a stock 10-ML2, shooting 45-46g VV-110(with a WW) and your desired 250g bullet will get 2400-2450'/sec with a single powder load and almost no temp sensitivity with extreme accuracy. The exhaulted 14/61 duplex will get you around 2600+/- 50'/sec with extreme accuracy and some temp sensitivity. It is not likely you will significantly improve on these loads regardless of how much shooting you do. My prefered 10-ML2 load remains 58-60 VV-120/300SST. That is what our back-up 10-ML2 stays loaded with(for use if all 4 PacNor's die), or as a loaner when we take guests.

I was wondering why savage does not offer the m/l in a 45cal.
