I have been checking out the Farrel bases and a few questions have arised. There seem to be alot of different options for the Savage. What model or number do we need for our accu-trigger muzzle-loader? Is the G-force base worth the extra?
Are our muzzle-loaders based off another Savage action? Thanks Rex

Don't rely on this, cause I'm not certain, but I think that the correct Farrell base will have "RTS" in the number, standing for "round top short". If it also has a "C", that means aluminum.

Thanks Harley
I was wondering if the G=force would be better on our hard thumping Savages?

I'm not familiar with the G base. I'd think that any of their steel bases would be fine.

Rex...........Just call Savage service department. While on the phone, you can get a "firing pin support" and the Farrell base from them. The base is cheaper than getting it from Farrell. Thats where I bought mine! Richard

I looked at the Ferrel base on the SSS website. Looks nice! I was just wondering if this base a little taller than others, say warne 2 piece bases for the savage? If I would normally use med rings do I need to step down to low rings to still keep the scope as low as possible?

I think the bases are a little taller. Might be able to drop one ring size lower. Brownels will give you ring height.

The farrell base from savage is a little different than what you get direct from Ken Farrel. Still good but different. If you buy from Brownell's or sharpshooter supply you can also get a 20 moa base (which I have on all my Savage guns) then I use Burris Signature Z rings with the inserts and you have some ability to gain some elevation in the scope. Yes they are a bit tall, but for I think $7 you can send the base to Ken Farrell and he will mill it down for a lower profile if you like. He is a top notch guy and I highly recommend his stuff. The G-Force has a set screw that tightens against the receiver to firm things up, but I don't think it is necessary for a ML-II. His base is also set up to be bedded if you should desire that.

encoreguy- That suprises me that they would make a different base just for Savage.

Ken makes or at least did make the bases for the 10FP package rifle. If I remember right, their are not as many slots cut in the top of the base and no bedding grove in the bottom. I am sure it was just to cut costs a little. Still a nice, solid base.
