Hello All!! I'm new to the forum, so I joined because of the insight given in the members post's and great info on this board. With that said, I would like to know any and all opinions on the Lyman Cougar in .50 caliber. I am new to muzzleloading and doing as much independent research as possible. I found that many people feel Lyman makes a good quality rifle, although not much has been written (at least that I can find) on the Cougar. I recently bid on one "LNIB" and won the auction for what I consider a modest price. I also own two other ML's, each from a different manufacturer, and have been getting my fair share of time in at the local range. My first was a CVA Electra in .50 caliber, which is very accurate with two 50 gr. pellets of IMR's White Hots @ 100 Yds. My next gun was a Traditions Deerhunter sidelock percussion cap in .32 caliber, which I have yet to shoot. I'm still waiting on the slotted cleaning jag to come in the mail. I also own a 1858 .44 caliber New Army replica pistol from Cabela's. I'm just starting my collection with a very humble selection of rifles, including my newest addition, the Cougar. Please feel free to post any of your personal knowledge or things you may have heard regarding this rifle. Also, any advice you may have for a new shooter would go a long way.. thanks, SP

Welcome sneeky, Don't know anything about and have never actually seen/held the Cougar. Only Lyman I have is a Whitetail Hunter sidelock and it's a nice and accurate gun. I also have 3 Cabelas sidelock guns, 2 TC Firehawks, White Bison, 2 Savage MLIIs, Bergara Encore .45 ML barrel and a Encore .45 cal SML conversion barrel. I like my Mls. 10 ga

Hey Thanks 10ga, I just got my tracking # for the Cougar so it should be arriving in the next few days. I shure will put it through the ringer and see how she shoots. Yeah, I've been looking into a Savage MLII for a while, they're nice smokepoles..
