Gentlemen, forgive me if I sound ignorant and this question is somewhat redundant. But the Pacnor barrels are in .45 caliber? How easy are they to install? Are they considered match grade. It really sound like many of you are happy with them. Does anyone have load date link for the .45 combinations that you are running through these? Thanks you for the help.

Thanks for the reply!!!!!!! What sort of tools are we talking about? I looked at the load date and there is a ton of it. I see that there are many duplex loads. At least I think that is the correct term you use for two different types of powders. I am a simplistic sort of fellow that wants to have any accurate ML for shooting deer out to 22 yards. I would imagine, just like every other barrel, what works well for one, might not work well for another.

orionsoracle I'm on the same thinking about simple. If you get a .45 get yourself some h4198 and work with gr levels of 56grs to 63grs with a 195 Barnes,200sst,or a 200xtp inside a smooth blue havestor sabot and you will have a very simple, very accurate, very mild recoiling gun. Pacnor barrels are custom barrels that are hand lapped and boy are they accurate. Goodluck with whatever you decide.

Orion, The only tool needed is a barrel nut wrench. Approx.$35.00 at most places, but I am sure someone on here will let you borrow one. I also will be keeping the simplistic approach in shooting one powder.H-4198 wil get you to the 2600-2700 fps range easily as a single powder. I have some IMR-4198 here and will give a extensive report on its use in the .45 as I see no reason why it should not perform well.I will be testing other singles as well as I will not be duplexing period. The Pac-Nor barrels have been very consistant from what I have seen.Start 2-4 grns below the given data and work up or down till you find the sweet spot for your particular barrel. There is really no short cut to load development other than the advice I just mentioned. The Harvester non-crushed light blue sabot paired with the 45 cal-.400-195 gr.MZ-FB all copper Barnes combo has given very satisfactory results to many. The .400-200 grn XTP is cheap fodder to get you on target. There is a 200 grn/.400 SST available as well.Following are the part numbers for the 195 grn Barnes.Be advised that you need to order these from Barnes or you run the risk of getting a old batch that has a pronounced radius that has been proven to blow sabots.Specifically ask for the NEW flat based version and mention you are shooting them in the smokeless Savage.Ask for Ryan in the tech department and he will ensure you get what you need.
Item # 40052B This is a bulk pack-$65 per 75
Barnes .45-.400 195 grn.MZ FB
Harvester E-Z load Premium Sabot 45 cal sabot-.40 cal bullet Part No. H45/40B
