When you guys mount your bases what color locktite do you use? Just on the screws right? Not on the bottom of the base. I'm thinking of a new sightron 3-9x42 in stainless w/ ssbases & rings. Any other input would be greatly appreciated. jk

Blue for everything and I have never had a problem with anything coming loose. The Red requires heat to remove if anything does not go right it can be a pain to get loose.
Also, be sure what ever you are locking in place has had any oil removed from it. You can use acetone or alcohol. Many times mounts, rings, and the screws have a light coating of oil on them so they do not rust in the packaging.

I have never bedded with the red either. I cannot see how it wouldn't work provided you remember to use heat if you remove the bases. It might migrate into the screw threads before it sets. Probably going to perplex your son after you are gone on.
I use CRC brand QD Electronic Cleaner to degrease. Its an aerosol can with a little straw to get to the bottom of the screw holes.

A cheaper alternative to CRC or any of the others is plain ole' ETHER! The stuff you use to get that old chain saw going ;D Evaporates quickly and leaves no residue! Richard

After being a mechanic in the past..for several year's I would only recommend blue loctite for small stuff of this nature.. The red that I have dealt with over the years was permanent stuff... Only used it on rod bolts and main bolts.. The object is just to keep the fastener tight... Let the screw or bolt do it's job. Drop

I second that: LT only the bolts (screws). The red stuff in the wrong hands can be a problem.

joe, are you saying not to apply any of the blue to the bottom of the base, but just the screws? just want to get this right , dont want to start a storm.

You could put some between the base and mount, but it was made for a metal to metal mount with screws doing the worm. It is mostly personal preference, I have seen people use finger nail polish and epoxy on them
