Well not being satisfied with the very accurate Hornady XTP load. I decided to see how well some Barnes bullets would shoot as these are my prefered hunting bullet. So after a little research, I tried some 225 grn. Barnes XPB bullets designed for the .45 Long Colt. The Barnes, 45 grains of 4759, Harvester short black sabot, and CCI 209m put 5 shots into less than one inch at 100 yards centered 2 inches high. I am now done. Now to take "Bad News" hunting.

spoon no problem. We are all learning together. Just when you think there is nothing new something turns up. Mike the nut behind the butt finally got it right.

Spoon, You might want to check your bullet diameter. The Harvester Black Cr Rib sabot is normally used with .457-458 bullets. If I remember right, the 250 gr SST is a .452 diameter. My 50s both like a MMP short black with .452 bullets. Boarhog

Boarhog, is that not crazy, the MMP 12's (very hard to load) were the right ones for this bullet but would only shoot 3" groups. Had some of the harvesters black crush ribs in range box so why not. Groups are now 1 3/4" constant @ 100yds I am so happy thing are tuning around with this new barrel, land size is only .501 and is as smooth as butter? IMR 4227 was a bad deal with misfires and a waste of good time at the range. After shooting the 300 gr rem I have moved the scope forward .75" and no more hits on the head, took the 300 rems out of the range box so I wont have a weak moment and try to shoot them again as they will group under a .5"! Someone said makes my shoulder droop on another post and I have to agree 300 grains are for the pros, not me!
