I always seem to mess this up. Is there a simple formula for calculating ring height? Are measurements standardized, like if ring height is stated to be .300 do all manufacturers measure from the same point, and what is it? Thanks

I have used a Small square resting on the bottom of the largest bell on the scope and held parallel with the tube. Then just measure the dist. between the leg of the sq. and the scope tube. I then have an idea of how high the rings need to be. All bells of the same size glass are not the same size so it depends on the scope and all rings are not the same either. I like to buy them hands on if possible

As Joe said there is no standard height for rings or mounts and scope objectives are not the same ether. You also have to watch if you add covers or not. I always keep a set of cheap high rings around to measure with. Brownells will list ring height of most rings and a lot of times it is right. Some measurements are from the top of the mount to the bottom of the scope tube and some are from the top of the mount to the centerline of the scope tube. Another thing you have to watch is the length of the scope. A regular length scope will put the objective out forward of the barrel nut, some of the short mag scopes will have the objective over the barrel nut so you may need higher rings to get clearance.
