Just like to say hi and thank ya'll for spending my money for me ;D I found this sight and ya'll pushed me over the edge. I got a 10ml II on the way SS laminated stock. I went to the store yesterday and picked up some 5744, xtps, sabots and primers. Went to midway and ordered the burris dual dovetail scope mounts with signature rings. Have the spin jag and starter on the way. Randy wakeman breech plug and ventliners Haven't decided on a scope yet, probably a leupy. Anything I missed? Already have an rcbs chargmaster so no problem on weighing powder. Again thx for all the info been searching the forum for about the last two weeks before I jumped in to get my feet wet

Welcome, We are glad we can help spend your money. ;D It will be money well spent. Don't forget to give it a good scrubbing and lube the breech plug and ventliner. When you start shooting it, make sure you wait 10 minutes minimal between shots. Steve

Be sure to read up on lubing the breach plug and ventliner, and using the correct components and the correct torquing or lack of torquing when putting together and installing into the barrel. This can save you a frozen BP and ventliner after your first range session.
Enjoy the journey it is a splendid road to travel, although frustrating at times well worth it in the end. Like the others said to make the journey less frustrating read up on the proper things to do with your Savage.

killigrillit.....welcome to the board. Don't get too caught up on the "wait ten minutes between shots" thing. There are easy ways around it. Read carefully in the hints and tips... particularly the "cool rod" barrel cooler. But yes, you cannot get the barrel too warm or it will soften the sabot and that in turn causes them to blow/leak pressure and inaccuracy. Feel free to PM me and I'll give you my phone if there is a question not answered here. Richard

Welcome and the $$ is just part of the deal. I racked up an extra $1000 in it AFTER I had it set up the first year. New Zeiss scope, rayhill bedding took care of that. And don't forget the expensive Barnes Originals if you go that way. I bought $300 worth after the gun mods. But when you get the results you desire or better, you forget about the money. Good luck!

JMHO - For your scope, do not overpower your choice!
Here's why, 90% of the time you will have it on the lowest setting, why? Because you want the brightest view and widest view you can get. The only time you will crank it up if you want to verify antlers or your in a tree stand and have a nice shot out past 100 yds. In the Northeast here that is rare.
JMHO - I have a Burris 2 x 7 FF2, in Burris rings and bases, the reticle is a German post and cross hair they have in stock. You don't want to play sniper with the gun unless you live in the Midwest where there aren't any trees. Is that true? I've never been there but I've been to N. Carolina and you can have plenty of yardage over the cotton fields.

Welcome
All good advice. I agree with the 2X7 power, IMO the lower power is most useful stalking or chasing down wounded. The cool rod is also useful in the winter, and , you don't need the ice. The rod cools down just fine sitting onthe bench while you are shooting.
