I guess my rifle (when ever I get it finished) will be about 10-11 lbs with the scope. I would like to get the loads up to around 2600 fps with the 275gr Parkers, sabotless. Based upon your experience how would this load compare in recoil to a 250gr 9.3mm Nosler BT being shot at 2450 fps out of a approx. 7 lb FN 98 Mauser in 9.3x62??? I am thinking it will be about the same.... I hope it is because I can handle the 9.3x62 just fine until I get to about the 15th round, then I start to flinch off the bench rest as it pounds my shoulder.
Another question while I have your interest. Will I need a scope base with a recoil lug design if I shoot loads in the 2600 fps range? I have been considering a Ken Ferrel base and rings for my Rem. 700 SS action and 4.5x14 Leupold M3 LR scope. What's your experience with heavy recoiling rifles???I have done just fine with my Rem.700 7MM Mag and standard scope base but I only shoot 140gr bullets. My 9.3x57 and 9.3x62 are both iron sight rifles.
Thanks, Smokepole50

Here is a link to a neat recoil calculator that allows you to compare 2 loads: You will need to have an idea of the amount of powder for the two loads. www.handloads.com/calc/recoil.asp

at your rifles weight it shoudnt be bad with up to 65 grains of powder. i have shot the 275 gr parkers with 65 grains of h322 and it wasnt bad. sb

Going by the recoil calculator, the load I'm currently working with should be about the same as a 275BE@2600fps with 65gr of powder. I consider it stiff, but my #1 does not have much of a recoil pad on it either.
IMO any extra precautions to help keep the scope from failing is a good thing. May not be needed, but certainly can't hurt.

I plugged in the numbers in the recoil calculator and it appears my 9.3x62 will kick harder by 3 lbs.......31lbs vs 27 lbs of recoil. I can handle that..............
However, I don't understand how they can calculate this accurately unless you are using the same powder. The only aspect that is similar about the two powders, Varget for the 9.3x62 vs IMR4198 for the 45 cal ML, is that they are both notrocelous based.
This calculator still gives me an idea of what to expect and I should be able to handle it just fine.

Just wondering if the 275 Parkers can be purchased without the sabots?
