Are they any good? I thought about ordering one unchambered and its a pretty decent price. Just wondering if it would be worth making a 45 out of one. Actually I could almost get two unchambered bbls for the price of one pac- nor finished barrel. Anyone wish to throw in their .02ยข let me know. Thanks, Kevin

a few months back I talked to the guy at McGowen barrels and he said if I sent him my breechplug he would cut the barrel for the price of his pre-fits. after the lack of information I found on their barrels on top of a few bad comments, I talked to Penny and am getting exactly what I want, and we all know what can be expected from Pac-Nor ;D

I posted this above, but have used them on a few centerfire rifles, accuracy right on par with Shilen and Douglas.

They have been around for some time but you just don't hear too much about them lately. They are definitely not the barrels seen in the winners circle at any of the big short or long range benchrest matches, Maybe some other disciplines are using them? Richard

I have also had several of their centerfire barrels in the past. They have also done some custom work for me.No complaints about their barrels or work.Very nice people to deal with.Would not hesitate to deal with them again.Their shop is in St Anne,IL about 1.5 hours to the north west of me.

got 2 of their barrels on 358 bfg's. One of them is a wow gun (the one built on a howa action) the savage barrel is so so. Fit and finish is good. I think they make a quality barrel at least what I got is good, how ever I've got a 35 short built on a howa with a er shaw on it that will cut one holes.

Thanks guys. I think I will get one and try it. I will at least have it in time for deer season. Worse comes to worse I sell it to one of my buddies and get a p-n for next year. I'll let you know how it turns out

Supposedly the guy that owned McGowen (I think his name was George) retired, sold the business and the new owner moved it to Montana. Being a smaller shop it gave some of the quickest turn around times.
Another company that did the same thing was Badger Barrels, they specialized in cut rifled barrels and did some awesome shotgun slug barrels. The new owner is more into government contracts.

Harry McGowen was the one who had it in Ill, he talked me into building my 50 Alaskan. From how I understood it, the guys that bought it from harry use to work for Montana Rifleman then went off on their own. Badger did make some dandy slug barrels, but did go the military contract wayside.
