It is still in the 90's every day here in Virginia and bow season starts Oct 2. The mornings usually begin with temps in the 60's which is nice but the evenings are hot even up till it gets very dark. I have to say that I am convinced that there is something to this global warming thing because I can remember bow hunting when it was really cold in the early morning and also as the sun set in the evening only warming up at mid day. Thank goodness for the Thermacell but still there is just something that is not gratifying about hunting in high temperatures. It just feels un-natural.
I have all my stuff packed and ready to go. Have fletched all my arrows, mixed my scent supressing elixer, got my tree stands up and now all I need to do is get motivated. Is there anyone out there that can bring on the real fall weather?? Bow hunting and leaves falling during a crisp and nippy afternoon just seem to go together. Will I have to wait till November to experience the joy of bow hunting without wiping the sweat from my forehead every five minutes?

It has been a hot time but it can change quickly. By the time your season opens you may need to dress a little warmer. Although it is still hot here in Arkansas, I can see the leaves are taking on some color and some are beginning to fall. I have noticed that a lot of birds have been migrating south. So, hopefully you will feel that crisp cool air you are wishing for.

Oh how I hate summer, I feel for ya Doug. Do what I do, wait til the end of October.
On a side note, last summer was one of the coolest we have ever had I believe. This year has been sweltering for this area, lots of days in the 90's.

Doug, I've hunted hard the last two weeks here in GA; the afternoon temps are from 95* - 105*. I've seen a total of one deer; that's probably a combination of the fact that I am dripping sweat down the tree I'm in, and the fact that deer are too smart to move around in that kind of heat.
I'm completely worn down and will not go back out there until there is a break in the weather.

Wait for a cool front Even if it's raining and the deer will move. Think of it this way you have a thick fur coat on (and can't sweat)when would you move around. Watch the weather any time it cools down get out and hunt (or try mornings)Also find the watering hole they need to drink more the hotter it gets.

The problem that I have with hunting in hot weather is not deer movement.....it is me! I just can't enjoy sitting still when it is warm. Drives me nuts having insects crawling on my treestand and flying by my head. Is it cold in like Minnesota in September??

I despise the thought of hunting in hot weather and refuse to do it, Doug. Our archery season starts in September but I usually wait until October to hunt. d**n the sweat, spider webs, and mosquitoes.

We have a real mess here. Some of those northern sketters have migrated south and have begin crossbreeding with our turkeys. What we are getting is a management problem. The crossbred creatures can't decide who is supposed to eat who.

Supposed to rain all next week Doug.Get all your stands up by the end of this weekend.Any scent you leave in the woods ought to be gone after that much rain. I bushhogged the back lot, didn't find your arrow. Sorry to inform there has been a family member that has told the hunt club they can't hunt this farm any more. In turn I can not take guests. Family only. I am sorry it blows. Thanks Dog hunting good old boy hunt club for messing up five years of work.

Doug, I will try and set something up. Do you have a climbing stand? That makes it easier for short notice. Also located some large bear tracks.Probably try to get an extra hunter on him.

We tied a record high today of 88....set in 1970. I guess there was global warming going on 40 years ago and we just didn't know it. I don't buy into any of that crap. The earth changes patterns...the sun flares up and the jet stream meanders around. What was the "ice age" 10,000 years ago.....way after dinosaurs were dead?
Our existence of 80-100 years is only a nano-second in the history books. Everything is cyclical IMO. Politics are heavily involved with the global warming stuff IMO.
Talk to me in January when my wood stove is trying to keep up with sub-zero temps ;D

It seems that the term "global warming" implies some human causation. I am not smart enough to determine cause but I am smart enough to realize that the environment in Virginia has changed drastically in the last 50 years. Don't know about the rest of the world. One thing I do know. This heat sure puts a damper on early bow hunting season.

the only thing I can say is in lumber city, ga, mornings are sort of pleasant until 10:30 or so, deer are moving at 9-9:30. They are moving again in the heat @ 6:30 or at least that's my observations
