I like using a decoy when bowhunting. Some of my most exciting hunts have been with one. As my old delta decoy has had it, I decided to get a new one this year. Looking around at what was available now, I saw the EZ buck from Carrylite. www.carrylitedecoys.com/productdetail.aspx?id=RQ-QD2009My brother-in-law has one of their original models, heavy, loud plastic, easy to lose parts and kind of a PITA to put together in the dark, but it looks really good. The new version promised quiet, lighter, no loss of parts and easy up and down. Finding the link above for about $50 off for a refurb, I bought one, and it showed up this morning. It comes with an assembly DVD that is very easy to follow. Assembly is easy, 10 minutes tops. The head, ears and legs are all secured to the main body via bungee straps, really slick design. No way they can fall off and be lost. The decoy is very light, and comes with an orange carry bag that makes it easy to handle. Once assembled, you unfold the legs, pull the head out of the body cavity, position the ears, add the antlers if you want and stake it down. I can see putting this up in a few minutes quietly in the dark, easily. Put together it looks great. Looking forward to putting this to use this fall. If you're into decoys, this looks to be a good one that's user friendly.

Sorry splinter, just saw this. I've had my absolute best luck with the decoy set as a buck. I typically remove one antler, to make it look more vulnerable and easier to beat in a fight. With it set like this, I've had yearling bucks come to it as well as the big boys. I've found lone doe decoys seem to freak the deer out more, especially does. As for scent, never put it on the decoy, but on the ground under the decoy or on a scent wick hanging on a weed under the decoy. I like to keep the decoy as clean and odor free as possible. Bucks approaching a decoy most always come to the head end first to display dominance. I set the decoy directly in front of me about 20 yards, facing me. That way, when a buck comes in, he is usually broadside at 10-15 yards facing away from me. I've had some awesome experiences with decoys, most memorable was a big 170bc 10 point at 8 yards that slipped in while I was watching a smaller buck leave the other way. We saw each other about the same time, I just turned my head, he couldn't make me out but cut me no slack whatsoever as he hung around for 10 minutes, not shot, but what a rush. I also like to put the decoy out where it can be seen from a distance. I've had bucks freak out when set up in the woods and they walk up on it before seeing it. Anything else just ask
