I took Katie out this morning.I took her to a good size stand of hickory and oaks.We eased in a little after daylight to find this stand of mast a buzz with the sound of squirrels cutting. She is 5 months old now and learning what the game is all about! She treed 2 by sight.I was able to roll 1 out ot her and the gun did not fire on the second1 .She also winded one and started barking but it was not found.I am excited about this fall!

This is good for her. It takes time and experience for her to learn that the gun is her friend and that not every time she barks up a tree will bring success. For her age I would say she in exceptional. Good looking dog. As you know it takes a lot off boot wear to make a top dog. I always loved to see a young dog develop. Once they reach their full potential I tend to get less of a thrill watching them. Maybe for me the excitement is seeing their progress and knowing that I am working with one that is going to make it. What happened to the male you come to Arkansas to get? Ben

Ben, I ran out of time for that pup.He was started on squirrel and coon.I sold him to a older gentleman to the north of me.I recieved the first report on him several weeks back.He is treeing kit coons very regularly for him.The gentleman was a old coon hunter who wanted a dog that would come when called and did not need a tracking system to hunt him.So it worked out very well for both of us.That pup was born at the wrong time of the year to do him justice. My new pups b-day is just right as I will have a lot of time for her this winter.I like for a pup to be 7-9 months old going into kill season.

Why would someone spend so much money for a beautiful rifle and scope and forego the plastic surgery that is so desperately needed?

The members of Dougs should start a collection for a Rifleman and Tar12 "Beautification Fund." Maybe they can go in together and get a discount. ;D
