Welcome Mike, Much valuable information is in the hints and tips section but any questions are welcome and will be answered. Personally, I would suggest the savage smokeless ML because it doesn't use that corrosive powder and is easier to clean. It does require more maintenance and care than a center fire rifle but not much. I would suggest using a book powder and you will need Lee measuring cups or a scale to weigh the powder. A cheap beam type powder scale works well. Without doing alterations this is a good 150 to 200 yard deer killer. It is a little expensive and after putting a good scope and getting the basic needs you are talking around $1000 bucks. But, anyway you go deer meat is expensive. lol. Again welcome and feel free to post or ask any questions. You will find the members eager to help when they can. Ozark

Glad to see someone from the west coast! I just made the comment we have few members from west of the rockys. Welcome to the board and if you do not see the info you need just ask. We won't hold anything back on you even if you are from California, just joking....

MLIIs, a .45 cal. SML barrel for my Encore. I already had 7 smokepoles. and then this! I'm an addict. welcome, 10 ga

terrace, welcome to the board! Everyone here will try to help you succeed. There is a lot more to smokeless ml shooting than most newbies realize. Once you get it all figured out, you will love it.
10ga! You sound like me! I now have 2 Savage 50s and a 45 Savage/Pac-Nor, on top of a whole stack of BP muzzleloaders! The Bride thinks I need to go to RE-Hab! Boarhog
