Made a couple of $ on the last fishing trip and getting the converted Encore .45-70 barrel going. Plan to use Lehigh 200 gr. 40 cal bullets (other suggestions welcome) and have some 4198.
Should I get the smooth or CR sabots? Or a pack of each to try?
What is good 2nd choice of powder?
I plan to use this gun for my sneak/creep, spot/stalk hunting and calling/rattling stands. 200 yd. minute of deer is what I'm looking for and probably will never have a shot that long except when I'm standing at the truck.
Anybody that has already tricked out a .45-70 conversion have any advice or insight.
Thanks all, Bob

The Smooth Blue Havester's work the best in my 45-70 conversion. And shoot the Lehigh 200g 40cal THE best so far of all the 200g bullets. Using a NEF 45-70 with 1:20 twist.

I've shot both with different bullets in 3 different barrels and couldn't see no difference accuracy wise.

For me, the Crush Rib loads easier, and costs more, but shoots the same as the smooth, so I stick with smooth.
