Anyone have one? Know of a good round for this gun? I've burned through two boxes of cartridges and not happy. My MLII groups better than this thing at 100 yards. I'm getting about 2 inch groups. I know there is a good round for it but I haven't found it yet. Will be reloading this round soon. So far 120gr Rem Corelokt and 100gr Winchesters are a no-go.

MY ENCORE WAS TERRIBLY PICKY BUT IT LIKED rl22 AND 110 ACCUBONDS, AND Fusion ammo. over 1.5 with everything else, way under a half with these. worth a try.

I am thinking that the Hawkeye has a short barrel but don't know for sure.I have a tikka in 25/06 and it only has a 22 1/4 in barrel. It shoots the R-22 and the 110 accru-bonds very well. It also like I4350 at 52.5 grs and the cup and core hornady 100's. I got the load below from a fellow on another forum and it sure shoots good in my tikka. Be sure and start lower and work up any loads you try.

Could be that a little work is needed on the rifle...making sure the barrel is free floating and at least the recoil lug is bedded to stabilize the action. These are the first things I look at before trying to work up a load. Zen

Herman that is the kind of group. I would love to get from this gun.
This gun is basically the same thing as the regular Ruger but has a coating on the barrel and action and the LC6 trigger and a 24 inch barrel. Not short and not long. I may or may not end up keeping it but even if I don't I still want to get it shooting well. The kid I bought it from was able to get good groups from one round but all he remembers is they were 117 gr bullets. Oh by the way and just my opinion but the LC6 trigger sucks.
I think I need to remove the stock and take a good look at whats going on in there and try my first bed job. One of those things I have read about, know the steps of how to do it but have not taken the plunge yet. I know it's not hard and I know it's not expensive so I think that would be a good step.

I have the same exact rifle and it loves el cheapo 117 gr. Sierra BTSP's with 50 gr. of H4831. It is the most accurate factory rifle I have ever owned or shot. An absolute Whitetails worst nightmare!.

Thanks John. I will be buying a new box of 117's and try them for this year very soon. Not going to get the reloading up and running before I need it so rather than rely on the 2 120gr shells I have left I'll re zero with the 117's. A friend told me Federal has what you are describing.

I used to shoot Sierra 100 gr SPBT with IMR 4350 @ a MV of 3130. It was a lights out accurate load in my Rem 700. I think I have about 50 of those laying around here somewhere..

Well I needed to buy some already loaded rounds for a hunt since I'm not ready to reload quite yet. I still need a shell holder. Didn't realize Redding dies don't come with them. I bought the cheap Lee trimmer and it said it had a shell holder in it but that only fits on the lock stud for the trimmer and isn't the same thing.
Oh, back to the new rounds. I picked up the Hornady Superformace 117gr SSTs and man did they tighten things up. It is now shooting just a hair over 1 inch groups. I will still do some reloading soon as I can but this is a big relief since I have a quota hunt in the morning. Shots can be up to as far as you want to shoot since it's quite open where I will be. Info says the 117gr SST is moving 3110 fps. I am right at what the box says to do 1.4 inch high at 100 yards and says 6.4 inch low at 300. Don't think I'll be shooting any more than that though. I'll give these rounds a report soon as I get one on the ground.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I will be putting them to use as soon as I get my butt in gear to reload.

Ok so a field report on the Hornady Superformance ammo. I went for a high shoulder shot on a doe at about 80 yards directly behind my stand. Angle sucked but I felt confident. Shot was higher than I wanted but it made a fist size hole going in and out taking out a chunk of spine on the way. Bone fragments everywhere but no metal so I am assuming it did not fragment. Good stuff. So far am very impressed with this stuff.
