Again as usual I'm looking for help. It seems I had a accident that caused me a fractured collar bone a few broken ribs and a pierced lung. Basically I'm told I would be lucky to shoot a 22 in a couple of mo. So now I'm looking for a stand alone sled does any one have any suggestions other than abstaining for 6mo. or so which is not exceptale. Help please Jon

Jon.........sorry to hear about your accident! Correct me if I am wrong, but don't you already have a lead sled??? And if so, just add two 25 lb. bags of shot and you should be good to go. Shooting loads of around 58 to 62 gr. of H-4198 in your Savage Pac-Nor there should be almost "0" recoil? Richard

Sorry to hear about your accident and hope that soon everything heals well. Are you going to be able to shove the load down the bore without excessive pain or danger to your injuries? I understand how you want to continue shooting but sometimes we have to sit in the bleachers and watch the players on the field awhile. Good luck on regaining your full health. Ben

I think you need a understudy to help you. I bet there is a youngster out the that can help you carry the extra lead and help load the weapon for you. This might bring an extra member on board. But I do not suggest that others do it by injury. Hope you heal fast.

Jon
I’m really sorry to hear of your accident and understand your resolve to make the best of it. I will not encourage or discourage you to continue shooting. The body when injured needs time to heal and we need to protect the injury/damaged area during the healing process for best recovery. Knowing this it’s up to you to decide what’s best to protect your body and what you can do with it because any consequences are yours in the end.
I can only ask you be extra cautious during this healing period and hope you recovery is reasonably quick, as well as complete.
Take Care
Ed

Jon, sorry to hear about your injury. I hope all goes well. Sportsman's Guide, as I recall, had a device listed that would let you shoot and the gun would return to the same positon after the shot. I even thought it had a remote trigger firing mechanism in case one did not want to actually have the shoulder behind the gun. I thought the instrument was under $300. I have to leave now, I will try to find more information for you.

Jon, Richard and Ozark have made the important points: 50# of lead will reduce the felt recoil using the Lead Sled to close to nothing; you'll have to decide if you are hurting yourself by leaning into the ramrod. Hope you heal quickly and uneventfully. Harley

Best wishes for a quick recovery Jon. Harley's point about the ramrod is a good one. That could be worse than shooting. Hope you get back in the game soon; but not too soon.

thanks for all the good words. It is really appreciated. I'm aware a lotof you have been here before I don't intend to do any more damage. Right now I could not load a pop gun let alone load any of my m/z. I'm just looking at the future. I will check on sportsman guide thatm sounds like what I'm looking for. For other reasons also. Again thanks to all for being the great and understanging plus knowledgeable people that you are. Jon

Jon, I pray that you heal fast and soon. This could be a good time for you to rediscover the fun of 22LRs. Just be safe and heal right, I was stupid not that long ago and did not listen to my doc and now I am really paying for it trying to get my elbow to work right again.

If you don't have a .17 HMR this is a good time to look at your finances and consider adding one to your firearms collection. Almost zero recoil, amazing accuracy, great small to medium size animal destroyer, great fun to plink with, range good out to 150 yards and inexpensive to shoot. It is almost sure to make you feel better without harming your injuries. Take pain pills as ordered by your doctor and treat your mind with a new .17 HMR. Fill a coke can with water and sit it out about fifty yards and watch it explode causing the water to look like a cloud of fog. If you haven't been down this road you will be amazed. Ben
