I purchased a can of 760 Winchester Ball powder. Should I use magnum primers or will the brench rest primers I have be OK. I will be loading in a 243, 270 and 30-06. Thanks for replies and help. The current powders I have loaded are V100 and H4350 and have gotten good results in the 243 and 270. The 06 not quite to par yet as far as group size. I can most of the time get 1.5-2" groups with factory loadings and I am getting 2.5-3" groups with my handloads. This is a BAR with Boss.

Most all ball powders are recommended to use mag primers. I would think the BR primers would be alright. Mike

I was using Win 748 in a 6x45 with standard primers and 100 yd results were fair to poor -- about 1.25 " CTC. Switched to magnum primers and 5 shot groups are now less than 0.2" CTC. Try the BR primers, but be ready to try magnum primers.

Federal 215 The solution to all priming problems. I use them with everything that takes a large rifle primer. Efficient powder burn every time regardless of the charge weight or type of powder. Just use a little less powder with smaller cases and charges of less than 55 grains in my experience. You won't see a loss in velocity from a slightly lower charge with that primer, and you won't see inconsistent burn problems either. if it won't shoot with a 215 your gun doesn't like the powder.

I shoot a lot of H414 and some 760.I just use the reg LR primers.I have tried the mag but the only thing I found it made the burn just a little cleaner. If you look on a jug of H414 which is the same as 760 it dosen't call for a mag primer untill you get up to a 338 caliber. It don't hurt to try though all guns are differant.

As herman has stated, and I agree. I have loader allot of both H414 and 760 with standard LR primers. One of my 06's, H414 or 760 are the only powders it likes and it likes them both.
Your mileage may vary, but for 22/250 to 06, I have had great results with non magnum primers.

W760 and H414 are supposed to be the same powder. I only use Mag primers with Ball Powder. In smaller cases, LR primers might work well, but I would use what the reload manual and the powder manuf. suggest. forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=428755Smokepole50

Just my 2cents. I use Federal match with W760 in my 6mm Rem w/55grain Nosler BTs. Best load Ive found for that particular gun. 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups regularly if I do my part.

Smokepole50 is right on, WW760 and H414 are one in the same. If you get different results using each it could be due to the lots. Most manuals recomend Mag primers for ball powders, but if otherwise works then use what works best for you. The only thing in the high intensity cartridges like .17Rem etc. The small rifle mag primer has a thicker cup. Not true with large rifle Vs. Large rifle Mag. In the .17 Rem you can pierce a std SRP where the Mag holds up. Good Shooting!
