There will be no shooting today. Seems we do have chiggers here, after all! Grrrrrr! Never heard anyone mention them here but I am the only person I know who goes outside. Oh well.... A few days of suffering and a life time of knowledge. Russell

I hate them also The only thing I found effective and believe me I have tried everything recommended, was to go to the beach and stay in the water 5 or 6hrs. I don't know wheather its the salt water or just being in the water smothers them but it seems to work.I am imune to poison ivy or poison oak but if there is one chigger in the county,it will find me The only positive thing I can think of is ,"talk about p@#$% enhancement"

Might work even better here in the Gulf. Nice bath of crude oil, mixed with bacteria and minerals. Apparently it kills everything

for those interested, I am trying every remedy I have read about. The only one I am leaving out is nail polish. It would take multiple bottles and hrs to do. Can't reach half of 'em anyway. My morning run made the condition unbearable. I cut my run to 3mi. The methods I am trying seem to help. I soaked in a tub with meat tenderized, scrubbed using salacytic acid soap and scrubbie, used benzocaine spray, max dose of benadryl and compresses of Listerine or green rubbing alcohol. No idea which works best but combined they seem to help. At least I can sleep. If these begin to fail, I'll turn to liquor, and sleep through the whole thing.

Once they get on you chiggers are very aggrivating. The trick is to prevent them from getting on you. By spraying you trousers legs, shoes or bare skin on the feet and legs with OFF they don't get on you. Naturally, if you sit down in the grass, on the ground etc. you will get them. Seed ticks are another problem come July and August. A wad containing several hundred will collect on a blade of grass and when you brush that blade with a leg they transfer to your clothing or skin. Again Off used as directed and often is the answer. Adult ticks can be seen but often they are not discovered until they have attached themselves to you. One man claimed that his ticks were alergic to his blood. He said they would attach themselves to his skin and in just a few days they would swell up and fall off. lol. Preparing to keep these pests off your body is the best advice I know of.

Ozark, thanks for the advice. I have not been bitten in more than 20 yrs. I really had no idea they were prevalent in my current neck of the woods. I have found out the hard way. From now on I will be well prepared. Just have to sweat it out for a few days.

Good point! Perhaps I could drink enough to kill them

i must really be imune to chiggers as some are to poison ivy & such,i have spent countless hours sitting not to know(lucky) what chiggers are & really dont want to know. however everything else like bugs still haunts me to no end,i hope this one does not bite me on the bottom so to speak ;D
