I'm working with my Gun club to put on a Wounded Warrior shoot, I'm in charge of the archery part. Last year was the first year we included archery and it was a big hit with the Troops and their family's ;D. I made several targets that moved by pulling them with rope (running /walking Deer) ;)dancing wood chuck and a ping pong ball floating on air (shop vac reversed) This year I would like to up the anti so to speak and motorize some targets PLEASE forward any ideals. Please keep in mind I have a very small budget, but have time to build almost anything (shoots in the summer) also on request I'll share how and what kind of moving targets we made. Thanks for the TROOPS GOD BLESS THEM!

Use a couple of bicycle wheels without the tires and run a continuous loop around them and put a small motor on one end to drive the wheel. Hang the targets off the loop and they will swing around and move the opposite direction back across the shooting lane. The old single speed bike wheels work the best and you can connect the motors with a short chain to the sprocket. Play with the sprocket size on the motor to change the speed or use a rheostat to vary the speed of the motor. Remember to keep all the wires and motor above the loop to avoid getting things tangled. Good luck

I've heard of some made out of old garage door openers. The trouble is that the motor on a door opener is not made for continous duty. So after a few runs it hit heats up and the reset trips out. May have to put a fan on it or change out the motor. For out doors one time we had a wire streached going down hill. Hang a target from some pulleys on it and let it go. Pull it back with a rope. Another shoot we had this year was where we set up 10 small 3D targets up in the indoor range. The range was dark except for some dim light on the firing line. A light came on for about 7 seconds lighting up your target. Thats how long you had to get the shot off before it went out. That takes a fair amount of work to set up.
