Thanks to my Savage I was able to get this buck out at 190 yards, and this is my first buck with the Savage so it is a little bit more special. I couldn't haven't done it with out all the help from everyone on this board.
Load was 43 grains of N110, Fed 209A, and the THOR 250 grain bullet. Location is Kent, NY which is West of Rochester NY by about 30 minutes. There are alot of farms around for the dear to eat, and yes he is going on the wall as my biggest buck to date with a 21.5 inch inside spread.
Here goes my story. I was in my father-in-laws back pasture for an afternoon hunt and it was just after the second rut here in NY state. I knew this buck was bedding in the woods around me as I tried relentlessly to get him during bow and the first two weeks of shotgun. When at about 15 minutes before dark he came out with another six pointer to feed in the neighboring soy bean field. Let me tell you I was freaking out since this was the first time he came out during light since I had been hunting for him. My heart was pounding out of my chest and I couldn't get a steady hold on him. It took me a good ten minutes to get settled down before I could take a shot. The good thing was I had time and he had no clue I was there at 190 yards away. I just remember the gun going bang and me looking for a white belly on the ground. I looked in the scope and there it was he went flat on his side. I almost fell out of my tree stand I was so excited, but I had a strap on the tree. I then noticed he was still moving so I got down and went over to him he had crawled about 40 yards before I had to put a final kill shot on him. Then I was really freaking out with a better look at his rack. So I took out the laser range finder and measured the distance back to the tree I was in from where I shot him and then headed back to the house to get the neighbor and his ATV.
