Anybody have any info on Nikon refurbished scopes? There seems to be alot of them out there are they really a deal & does it make you wonder about durability of Nikon products. I have a Monarch and love it but i bought it new.

I have been wondering the same. I have a new New Monarch that has been back twice. Once from heavy loads on my ML and once from 100 grain loads in a 25--06. I was going to put it back on my ML. When it came time to ML hunt this year I never mounted it. I just don't trust it.
I will put some stout loads under it later this winter.

I've bought a couple of refurbs from MS, no problems, but I don't have them on hard kickers either.
The last two I got, if they had been mounted, you couldn't tell it, couldn't even see a smuge in the matte finish.

I would trust refurbs more than new because the repair person is also the quality control of their own work. Individual attention is more likely IMO.

i would tend to agree Ozark . You would think a repair tech would have more knowledge than the assembly line people & hopefully they get the bugs out.

Before you buy a refurb scope, I suggest that you ask about warranty. I asked a MSS phone sales guy about it a year or so ago. Seems like he told me they are only warranted for 30 or 90 days. Not sure now, but whatever he said, I decided NOT to order a refurb at that time. Be your own judge!

I think a lot of them are demo or display models that are gone over for cosmetics. Also not all refurbs come with the included retail items. Sometimes that not a big deal, other times it can be. I was looking at the refurb rangefinders but ran across a good deal on a used one on another board.

I also read that the Nikon referbs warrenty is only 90 days from date of purchase, so I desided not to buy one. Some great deals though.

I was looking at buying a refurbed nikon spotting scope and called the nikon customer service department. It took me almost an hour to talk to them but they said it carried the full nikon warranty. Which was if anything happens to the scope send it with 20 bucks and it will be replaced no questions asked. After I spoke with them I went to purchase the scope and it was gone. Oh well still on the look out for one.
