Just felt to give my first impression of the Vortex Scope I purchased last Winter. It is a 3x9x40mm, Viper Series filled with argon gas and am pleased with its performance so far. Opted for the BDC Recticle. www.vortexoptics.com/product/vortex-viper-3-9x40-riflescope-dead-hold-bdc-reticleThe clarity and light gathering capabilities are excellent IMO and feels rugged enough to handle abuse. This one is mounted on my muzzle-loader. It tracks really well when adjusted. I get ¼ adjustments per click every time so far. The adjustment sounds and feels crisp when made. For lower light conditions I see better with scope than with the naked eye. It has good eye relief of 3.5” and not 3.5mm as noted in their spec sheet. No recommendation of going out to buy one yet but will say I am pleased so far with what I expected/got for the money spent. Ed

Plus, I found Vortex to be good people when I contacted them. They replaced, for free, a new Vortex tripod I destroyed by running it over with my SUV.

As I have said in the past I think Vortex is the up and coming line and will probly blow away the competition with the new Viper PST line at the SHOT show coming up in two weeks. They have set their sights on the tactical crowd this year and the Razor HD blows away S&B, Zeiss, USO and Premier Reticle at half the price and from what I understand the new PST line leaves the Leupold MKIVs, NF and IOR in the dust, again at half the price. They have been able to do it faster then Weaver even with Weaver now having the backing of ATK/Federal.
They haven't forgotten their roots starting out as a small shop catering to the birding crowd. They have taken care of their customers, listened to what they want and stand behind a quality product that is a great value. I just hope they do not get too big and lose sight or end up getting bought up by a bigger company where the P&L sheet rules.

I need to look at some new glass, snoozed and losed on the Weaver deal, so maybe this will be a nice alternative.
