I broke MAc's rod today reloading after shooting a doe. Got the load down and was applying seating pressure and "snap". Broke at the muzzle.
It was cold today and the seating was a bear as the load is already a very tight one in warm weather. My fault....not the rods.

Even store bought solid aluminum ramrods can be damaged as I found out earlier this year when trying to run through a tight load. Talk about a warped appearance as it bent outside the bore. Fortunately have a few high grade aluminum ramrods I made and finished running that load through. Don't know how much the homemade can handle because everything has a limitation.
Mac's ramrod appears to be of decent quality and wonder if he can make the last sectional piece with solid aluminum to beef up that location? Just a thought.

I broke one of my Mac's rods also. My fault! As I was leaning on the rod pretty hard, my barrel slipped to the side, and I folded the rod right up. I like the rod, and I like Mac. I ordered one of his new heavier models, and he sent me a piece to replace the broken section. I especially like the rod holster he made out of wider material. I think I will see what he would charge to make 3" wide sheaths for the other two Mac's rods I have.

Thanks for the heads up. Shooting the Barnes sabotless loads hard in my barrel. I'm a little scared to measure my loading force. I think I will make a little adjustment to my bullet before next hunting season.
Wilms-Glad you at least got the first shot loaded!

Talk about service! Mac just gave me a surprise call and informed me that my rod was the new and heavier duty model. He would stand by his product and make it right if I had any problems due to normal loading practices. The new black rods are a heavier wall.
Sometimes I'm really astonished at the honesty of people on this board. I am really appreciative also of how Mac has done business with me.I did pull my breech plug and ran a few of my sabot-less hunting bullets down my barrel with no problems. It was actually stiffer rod than what I expected.
Wilms- Mac is trying to get in contact with you. He believes your rod is the older thinner wall version and will make it right.
Mac , I appreciate your fairness on a very nice hunting rod.

I also busted my rod do not know if it was my fault or not, called MAC 1 week before ml season. MAC not only sent me a black thicker rod but told me to send my broken one back and he fixed that one also for me. He is one heck of a guy a one man show standing proudly be hind his product. I can not say enough about mac never met him but now talk to him all the time. I dumped a 6 pointer last week and reloaded right away with the new rod it worked pretty slick, still have 2 weeks left on ml season iam sure i will be using it real soon just got two feet of snow. As a matter of fact iam positive i will be pulling it out this week. thanks MAC for a great product. BILL

Mac saw my post about liking the wider sheath, called me and has two on the way. Just wants me to pay the postage, but I wouldn't feel right about that. I have a small business of my own. Giving great service doesn't mean giving your merchandise/services away. Do quality work, or build a good product, sell it at a fair price, and do what you say you will and you will have successful business. Boarhog

Just got my 1st rod from Mac. NICE! What would Grandad have thought: folding ramrods, spinjags, smokeless powder, jacketed boolits. Nice stuff. Of course he did buy a 1911 Winchester 12 ga shotgun. The first autoloader shotgun produced. Browning design just like the A5 but the earliest model produced. I still use it a couple of times a year just to remember Grandad. Before the 1911 he used a Colt double barrel and black powder shells. 10 ga

Hey Dead,
I don't have his username, but if you want to PM me, I will give you his Telephone #. I talked to Mac a few days ago after getting my rod and he was having some computer problems FYI.
