Guys, I thought I should share a couple of little tweaks I’m using with my breakdown rod from Mac. Mac’s rod worked great for me during Iowa’s early MZ season a couple of weeks back. Ended up shooting 4 deer and had no problems quickly reloading with the rod. As a matter of fact, on one occasion I put two shots into a single deer. My one issue was that after I quickly reloaded, I had nowhere to stash the rod. It doesn’t take that long to break down, but when you’re trying to keep your eyes on the target, it just doesn’t work. Of course, there’s always the option of dropping it on the ground, but I know dropping the rod would lead to an inevitable loss. Mac’s solution to this was a “quick holster” on the bottom of the sheath for my sword....er ramrod. I haven’t had a chance to try it out, but I think it’s going to do the trick although I may end up looking like one of the three musketeers running through the woods if I have to chase a deer. The other thing I’m doing is trimming my bore guide as shown in the picture so the rod still folds together. The bore guide really isn’t a necessity, but it’s nice to have. Storing it this way doesn’t really take up any extra room or hinder quick reloading.
