I've been on a lease in central Ga for about 8 years and I've been up here since Thursday night, Hunted Fri and Sat (it's been really warm) with out so much as seeing a flick of a tail (I saw 5 jakes yesterday around 10a or so but no deer). This morning the temp was in the low 50s and it came together nicely. Just before daylight (you guys know you can sort of see but not quite yet) I had a deer about 5 yards out from the base of the stand feeding, I figured in about 10 min I could see so I sort of kept an eye on the deer when it flagged and took off. I'm sitting there trying to figure out what the hey. 1st thought was maybe a buck was around and that's why it flagged, about this time my belly rumbled like a train on a rough track and I decided that it must of heard that, sky lined me as I turned my head and spooked. 10 min later to my left a buck with a high white rack decide to come in and partake of the acorns on the ground. At 20 yards he put his head down to feed and I put the crosshairs behind the shoulder pulled the trigger. I got down not finding blood (found the bullet grove in the dirt) and was seriously questioning my shooting skills. I made a 30 yard loop, I didn't cut a blood trail but I turned in to do another closer loop he was laying about 5 yards from where I last saw him. He turned out to be an 8 pointer (10 if you count the 2 sucker points). It isn’t a huge rack but a trophy to me just the same. His inside spread is 13” weight 145 which is decent deer for this lease. The shot was excatly where I aimed and he went maybe 25 yards after the shot. Oh, rifle: sako 85 338 fed, 200 gr speer sitting on 4895
